I thought the launch failed, then I woke up It's been a year since I posted. What could possibly go wrong?

I launched Screenity Pro quietly, fixed a few bugs, and overthought everything 🫠

Then I finally posted about it publicly, and instantly regretted it.

...until the next morning 👀

Imagine Loom, but for storytelling 🎬

I built Screenity Pro for creators who want more than just a screen recording. Make multi-scene edits, zoom on click, switch layouts, add captions and templates — then share it with a link.

I launched Screenity Pro (yes finally!) Also, how a trip to the Alps turned into an avalanche of bug reports

I finished building Screenity Pro and went to the Alps to relax.

Obviously, Chrome broke everything and I started getting 1-star reviews from a mountain hut 🙃

Anyway, it's live.

Why I rebuilt Screenity two months into my new indie life When a storm knocks you offline, it forces you to rethink everything.

I got away from London's grey weather to work by the sea 🏄‍♀️

Instead I got caught in a full-blown Atlantic storm with no Wi-Fi, and way too much time to think.

Sooo... I ended up rebuilding Screenity. Kinda. 😅

Buying a house, quitting my job, and going full-time indie What happens when you try doing everything at once (spoiler: burnout)

2024 was chaotic 🙃

I bought a flat, traveled all over, joined a hackathon while recovering from surgery (bad idea), and finally quit my job to work on my own ideas.

Invisible Computers

I've been looking into this as well recently, I think the closest I found was this (but no color): www.invisible-computers.com

For now I'm using a Kobo eReader and a server to display the calendar. I'm also thinking of installing a display on the kitchen to show recipes and meal prep instructions.

Glad to hear it! 🥰

Just realized I haven’t written on my newsletter in over a year… 🫠 Life and work have been a lot. Trying to put myself first this year—my goals, my projects, and sharing more along the way. Let’s see how that goes 🤞

Showcasing the cursor tool, arrows, and transform controls.

The tldraw lock functionality to keep tools enabled until manually unset.

The tldraw lock functionality to keep tools enabled until manually unset.

I've implemented arrows, shapes, & the eraser.

I had a UX dilemma: whether to keep tools enabled until manually unset, or automatically switch to a selection tool on every action, showing transform controls. I've seen both, tldraw has a "lock" mode which I like, but I want to surface it better...

Nice! I've been a bit hesitant myself, I can't decide whether to just share what I'm working on, or if I should post other things more. It's a bit of a dilemma honestly 🫠

I'm trying to achieve financial security, enough so that I can just do and work on what I'm passionate about. Spend more time traveling, figure out where in the world I want to end up living (don't think it will be London), try new things... I'm sacrificing more now to get to that point sooner.

Oops, found a bug that changes the pen color on every stroke... Guess it's a feature now! 😅🌈

Haha I want to add those options too, but the idea is to do it more like Loom, so you can copy links to share the videos. Not just internally within a company, but also externally for things like product demos. I'll likely just cap the bandwidth, I've seen others do it at ~1TB/month which seems ok.

Yeah, maybe, it could work. I'm still fine tuning these things, I'll likely not have the finalized pricing in a while, planning to see the reception first. I think my main concern is less so the resolution and more so the traffic from sharing those videos, it can get pricey.

I do want to avoid all these "micro-limits" as much as possible since they're annoying but I don't want to accidentally put myself in a position where the cost to sustain a user > what they pay, as a solo maker w/ no funding.

I set the metrics I'm charging through the provider I use for streaming/transcoding/storage/... which are storage+bandwidth. I've set reasonable caps/user "globally" to stay cost effective, but there's other added costs (e.g. editing, edge cases) which I need to take into account. Bit tough 😅

Firesky Watch every Bluesky post in real-time – filter the firehose

Bona idea! Però em sembla que no està tot ben indexat en el buscador, surten pocs resultats en general. Només funciona amb el https://firesky.tv/ posant-hi els filtres correspondents (i mantenint la pestanya oberta).

Not really possible with the Chrome API as an extension. But I am looking at ways in the new version to hide and obscure the UI so it's not as prominent.

Screenity - Screen Recorder & Annotation Tool The most powerful screen recorder for Chrome. Capture, annotate, edit, and more.

It's a bit more nuanced than that imo, the app is free & open source rn w/ 160K+ users. I need to:

- Convince at least some of them to upgrade
- Attract new users, switching from Loom/others

I think a decent featureset would help w/ that. Branding is top priority too though, redoing it all from 0.

A table of features I'm adding to Screenity, compared to other screen recorders like Loom, Screencastify, Vidyard, etc.

A table of features I'm adding to Screenity, compared to other screen recorders like Loom, Screencastify, Vidyard, etc.

Been working on mapping out more of the features I'm adding to Screenity (not exhaustive) + comparing against other screen recorders.

Hard to compete with some of these as a solo indie maker (some features are 💸💸💸), but I'm making it work so far by optimizing costs.

What else should I add? 💡
