Issuing a 20-year sentence to journalist & publisher Jimmy Lai is a grave affront to press freedom.
@pressclubdc.bsky.social affirms unequivocally that journalism is not a crime. The work of informing the public, questioning power, and defending democratic values must never be treated as a threat.
Last night hundreds of journalists gathered for a press freedom town hall hosted by the National Association of Black Journalists.
The conversation underscored how critical physical safety and legal support are for reporters doing essential work.

Jimmy Lai doesn’t have to imagine what it’s like to be in solitary confinement.
