(Especially interested to better understand research and/in Occupational Therapy)

And so begins a term of understanding research and methodologies... if anyone has any advice or resources then please do not hesitate to send them over :)
In the NHS 'Fit for the Future' 10 year plan, it mentions launching a moonshot... what does that even mean?????
I'm just not 100% convinced that there is such a clear distinction between these intrinsic and extrinsic factors - I guess as hardship becomes psychosomatic it becomes a far more complex thing to disentangle
I agree with the point that destigmatisation of suffering should be inclusive of both internal and external factors so that we can facilitate a more popular understanding of the social determinants of health-
Rather than offering us the opportunity to locate and recognise parts of our suffering in collective experiences we are having (climate breakdown, racism, rising inequality, geopolitics).
Im reading a book called Warp and Weft which (amongst other things) puts forward the case that 'destigmatising', and telling personal stories about our mental health locates issues we are having within the 'atomised' self

Also feel like tapping in to the symbolic dimension of action is where we can find hope, truly a magical prospect
Because even non-participation in platform capitalism is a choice laden with meaning, self-efficacy and one's own sense of agency is challenged within this broader zeitgeist of the internet
As these platforms become increasingly contested spaces, the meaning that derives from engaging in them is shifting. Yet participation (or non-participation) is a condition of modernity.
Understanding the symbolic aspects of activity is crucial in being able to understand how people articulate a sense of agency - Web 2.0 has given many people a platform to create and have their voices heard, which means that the way that activities are performed is loaded with complexity and meaning
I went to see Heretic (2024) last night just before ringing in the new year and safe to say it was a very interesting choice of film - Hugh grant plays a terrifying baddie... would recommend if you want to watch a psychological horror lol
Happy new year!
The relationship that we have with our agency and sense of self-efficacy in the world is so important, communication is beautiful

Is an activity analysis of cooking dauphinoise potatoes some sort of occupational therapy in-joke? I keep seeing this in place of 'cooking' analysis lol.
Lana del Rey announced a stadium tour next year! These popstars won't stop until they have all my money !!!
Whisper of the heart has to be one of my favorite studio ghibli films, I love a good cheesy romance sometimes
Hope is a muscle that allows us to connect

'Social closeness is not limited to close relationships. Any interaction that reminds one that they belong can increase social closeness' - 'a belief or perception about a person's degree of enbeddedness in a social network'
- Kok & Fredrickson, 2024
Yes, libraries are invaluable for their collections and public services they offer, but also social contact without the expectation to interact with anyone or spend any money is so important to so many people
Amongst other things, occupation allows us to explore applied presence, which holds the capacity for people to flourish

'Good relationships are characterised by frequent positive interactions, such as having fun together, sharing laughs, doing kind things for one another, and expressing gratitude'

This is a great intro to occupational therapy in mental health settings! Thank you for sharing :)
I think that when we look at our engagement with intention it affords us the opportunity to work towards care and apply a framework of justice, I guess it is the responsibility of each occupational therapist to take these and apply them in their own practice / setting :)
Just had a lecture about models and frames of reference- reminded of the fact that occupation is relational and therefore political
Bluesky's list function is so useful! 👋 hello to all OTs and rehab professionals I've followed 😊
We know that Grenfell residents were catastrophically failed by the authorities, before and after the devastating fire.
Yet, one deeply underreported fact is that 80% of them were Muslim.
What impact did this have on their recovery support?
