I'm writing a library scene (not procrastinating by being on social media, not at all)! What are your favorite libraries around the world? I need inspiration.

A vintage poster of a fake advert in sepia and black. The design shows a magical potion bottle surrounded by stars and the following text: Royal Regis presents Vim and Vigor. Got the morbs? Put some pep in your step, guaranteed!

Sharing one last image from The Chosen One Con... It's a fake advert that I put together myself using stock art! I did a lot of research into making sure the stock art I picked was AI free.

It represents a potion from the Royal Regis brand of potions in the book.

Do you prefer plot-driven or character-driven stories?

I love coming up with twisty plots, but The Vanishing Castle is really about the characters. It’s a pretty quick read, too, at around 255 pages.

Do you like fantasy with deep world-building?

I do! I wrote a book about a centaur who works as a magical safety inspector, and who solves crimes.

If that sounds like your kind of fantasy, hop on. We’re heading to The Vanishing Castle for a safety inspection. (And more mayhem TBA in Book 2!)

Panel 1: a photo of a flat fossil / Panel 2: a femme fatale Wiwaxia in a detective's office, underwater / Panel 3: a joke about primitive eyes in the Cambrian / Panel 4: a joke about invertebrates being spineless creeps

Is this 4-panel #comic too niche to print for #SPACE2026? Does anyone care about absurdist detective fiction set in the Cambrian period?

The world is very bad so please just make what you want. We aren’t getting any more alive.

I'll go first. I see the unfinished WIP's haunting authors but I can't say anything about them. If I'm looking off to the side while speaking to you, that's why.

🚨 MASHA Incident Report 🚨

Describe your useless or poorly functioning magical ability. For example, the ability to turn tea cold faster than just forgetting to drink it right away.

Question for #fantasybooks readers/writers: Should magic be regulated?

In my world there’s a civic agency called MASHA that's basically magical OSHA.

Now #amwriting Book 2, I’m introducing characters who think magic should be completely free.

Do you think you'd be Team MASHA or Team Free Magic?

“Centaurs never existed; there could never be
a double nature in a single body…
composed of incongruous parts
with a disparity in faculties.
The stupidest person ought to be convinced of that.”
— Lucretius

I write about a #centaur trying to reconcile his dual natures, because aren't we all?

My world has centaurs, fauns, naiads, and dryads. I skipped elves and dwarves, but I did create my own fantasy peoples (all descended from dragons). Dragons are gods, not beasts or pets.

Do you prefer traditional fantasy archetypes, or original?

Ambrose Bierce defined a centaur in his satirical "The Devil’s Dictionary" as: CENTAUR, n. One of a race of persons who lived before the division of labor had been carried to such a pitch of differentiation, and who followed the primitive economic maxim, "Every man his own horse."

Greek philosopher Empedocles (c. 494–434 BCE) imagined evolution as random body parts combining to form composite creatures, including centaurs.

Driven by Love & Strife, only the functional survived.

I think about that, because I write about a high-functioning centaur with a job in magical safety.

Plus, I've seen people get hit by bird poo... and the aftermath of parades. Putting the two together seems like a bad idea.

What kind of public transportation do you want in your fantasy world?

I write gaslamp fantasy, so I’m thinking...
- Horse-drawn boats pulled along a network or canals or
- Carts gliding along enchanted (or magnetic?) rail tracks

What are we riding to work?
