I am one of those ♀️early career researchers affected. My pediatric liver cancer R01 was approved for funding with Feb 1, 2025 start date and ended up being canceled without explanation but likely due to Cancer Moonshot Diversity Scholars RFA, even though it was not restricted to diverse applicants.

this morning, mamdani’s team got in touch with me to float a new tax proposal: if your net worth exceeds $5 million and you dress badly, you’ll be hit with a 10% annual levy for “visual pollution.” i would be in charge of deciding if the outfits are bad.

He so confidently talks about what should or should not be funded...when does the OMB Director get to decide that? Isn't it Congress's job? What are his qualifications? Is this part of their 'meritocracy' that he gets to say AI is the most important topic for NSF? Vile man.

I am a physician in this country with the 'best' healthcare in the world. I am appalled that my tax $$ are being used to dehumanize people in general but particularly at this scale. Can states pass laws to ban these facilities like they are passing laws to prevent local workers from helping ICE?

They don't. It's not free at the ER for anyone, (unless you have Medicaid and the undocumented can't get Medicaid.)

Government funded hospitals are not allowed to turn anyone away, regardless of ability to pay, but they still get a bill.

What an absolute failure of a human he is. Waste of oxygen.

🧪 And House appropriators say: no cuts to NIH budget!

House subcommittee version just came out (link below). Holds NIH flat at $48 billion.

To be clear: this is far from over. But a good sign that science still matters across both sides of aisle.

YOUR VOICE MATTERS!!

#NIH is hanging by a thread. The #CDC has been decimated. #RFK Jr. and Russell #Vought are psychopaths--I don't say this frivolously--they are cold, calculating, inflicting violence on millions through public policy. It is where we are right now. These men are not normal. 1/

@gavinnewsom.bsky.social: "I think he should start with Shreveport, Louisiana, and Speaker Johnson's district that has 6x the per capita murder rate of Nancy Pelosi's San Francisco. What about the carnage, Mr. President, in Shreveport? Why aren't you protecting the folks there? What bullshit."

Important note from inside NIH

New grants policy terms may lead to terminations after October 1st.

Don't panic, but do realize that this is a possibility.

We are on a bullet train to the end of US science, and possibly the country as a whole, when political appointees are reviewing every scientific grant submitted to NIH to determine if The Regime finds the science acceptable.

Their NIH Grants Are Back. But Nothing Is Back to Normal. Researchers say that picking up where they left off is complicated — scientifically, financially, and logistically.

NEW: Their NIH grants are back, but nothing is back to normal.

In June, a judge ordered the restoration of 900+ terminated grants. So how's that going? Scientists say they're happy, but also it's been a bumpy road—and they're afraid their funds will get cut again. www.chronicle.com/article/thei...

National Cancer Institute projection of a 4% pay line in FY2026.

Good grief, the US National Cancer Institute projects it will fund only one in 25 RO1 grant applications in 2026. This is massively defunding cancer research. Despicable vandalism. www.cancer.gov/grants-train...
