an all time fave. looks glorious on 35mm!
yeah it's wild that he fit in those planes!
I wish we could get an upgrade on that set. or at least have it on Criterion Channel so I can hype all those films. So many gems.
overwhelmed by the response to this piece. I appreciate everyone who went on this journey towards the truth with me.
This is a delight.
for the night crowd
This is a great piece, but it also makes me wish they used reverse-CLIFFORD trickery to turn John Malkovich into a giant in SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE.

F.W. Murnau, towering giant of cinema.

We all know FW Murnau was a giant of cinema, but was he a giant IRL? @oldfilmsflicker.bsky.social is on the case!
Murnau the giant!!!
Attack Of The 50ft Murnau
I love this for many reasons, not least of which is the fact that I live with a man who is 6'8" and so know all about the shenanigans of tall men exaggerating their own height and also other tall men's height in comparison to their own
Surprisingly few photos of him exist that are available online. I imagine in some film archives there might be more images where we could compare his height to those in the photos, but I doubt the Margaret Herrick or any other archive would let me in just for that lmao
Oh thatβs true.
It blew my mind when I first found out
Murnau shouldve hooped instead of tryna advance the art of cinema cause he tall as hell
For this weekβs Silent Sundays post, I have continued working on an investigation that began on Twitter a decade ago.
