nasa would never let an astronaut do a lil ;) and thumbs up pose for their crew portrait. thats the kind of guy vic is though. hed do it anyway and the photographer would just have to let him bc hes so nice and friendly and how could they say no to that guy.

vic morris, alaskan, former astronaut of american and russian heritage, quits nasa to be an elementary school music teacher so he can peacefully raise the alien child he found near jupiter. has a Thing going on with the kindergarten teacher who secretly makes superweapons. normal guy i like a lot

makes for a really cool treat after finishing the book to go back and watch for all those little things they included. i will go ahead and say i think 99% of the changes made (and i don't consider omitting excessively detailed science monologues a true "change") were a VAST improvement over the book

the fishing scene is a great example, the way grace finds the blip a after leaving, the spin drives are exactly as described in the book, all of it is there just not touched on in depth. if you know you know, literally

but it's fascinating to me just how much they Kept even if it's not fully gone into detail in the movie. like it's truly crazy shit

i see ppl complaining abt the compressing of the plot / omitting plot points and science but like. Well Duh. it's a two hour movie of course they cut stuff
