Here are my 4 Golden Rules of Texting:
#1. Be explicit about why you’re reaching out
#2. Remove uncertainty
#3. Explain what silences mean
#4. Group chats are for sharing news that can be recognized with a few words

I'm obsessed with this recent article by Matthew Schnipper in @theatlantic.com. Men are crappy at communicating and they tell us why –– in their own words.

And I wrote this for anyone who's spending the holidays alone.
* PLAN AHEAD so you're less stressed.
* ACCEPT YOUR FEELINGS whatever they are.
* FOCUS ON WHAT'S IMPORTANT TO YOU.
* TAKE A SOCIAL MEDIA BREAK if you need it.
* BE PRESENT. GIVE BACK. REST.

For anyone who's concerned about having things get unwieldy at the dinner table:
* HAVE A GAME PLAN so you don't get flustered.
* HAVE A GOAL to know what success looks like.
* MAKE SMALL TALK when it gets too spicy.
* BRING AN ALLY to help keep things civil.
