Poetry from the edge of oblivion.

He NEVER went up his own ass, NEVER.
And for a global superstar out of Hollywood this is a rare rare thing.
From Carpenter to icon.
A credit to my profession.
Love the guy.
A visibly moved HARRISON FORD accepting his AFI Life Achievement Award in Los Angeles this month.
This administration is one unending April Fools joke. I second a moratorium until life regains some semblance of normality.
This is one of the most eloquent pieces of writing I’ve encountered in years.

“I have never encountered a group of people who are more competent, more full of grace and empathy, more willing to serve others than nurses. Nurses should take over.”

Congratulations to my fellow losers of the annual Edward Gorey House envelope art contest. May defeat always be this glorious.
We’re finally catching on.
A Tomten gnome surrounded by woodland creatures with text reading Peace on Earth.
Today’s folkloric holiday card: Tomten (or tomte) - a Scandinavian Christmas gnome. Traditionally a guardian of livestock and a protector of the home, I’ve taken some liberties and made my Tomten a protector of all creatures.
May you all be safe and warm tonight. Merry Christmas Eve.
If you're comfortable doing so and are out shopping today or tomorrow:
Look a retail worker in the eye and say "Thanks" if they do something extra for you.
I promise you, they will remember your kindness.
It might be what gets them through this week 🙏❤️
The greats knew the key to humor: Play it straight. Vaudeville informed those earliest generations. Stand-up informed the next. We need live audiences to hone our crafts, and our classic movies were full of folks who learned by falling on their faces in front of booing crowds.
Good King Wenceslas and his squire set off to feed the poor.
The next card in my holiday series: Good King Wenceslas.
An ancient tune that persists for a reason.
“Mark my footsteps, my good page, tread now in them boldly,You shall find the winter’s rage freeze your blood less coldly.”
To lead is to serve.

The best games are the ones that allow players to find their own paths to joy. Whenever my teams say “that’s fun, but we don’t want players to do that,” I always respond with “why the hell not?” Linger in the woods where the birds sing. Fish while the boss waits down the path. Play your way.
I like that mistletoe increases the odds of being kissed. More plants should offer temporary environmental status. Brawling under lingonberries. The soft yearning of a love that dare not speak its name beneath the nightshade.
I still know all the words.
It’s the “season of love and giving”…but this year, doesn’t it seem more like a “season of fear and taking”? Like many of you, I’ve been saddened by the human impact of draconian government budget cuts and how angry many housed Americans are at unhoused Americans.

Our team made time for a little holiday fun before our break.
Social media is labyrinth where the past and present overlap in unseemly ways. Today, its odd corridors led me to this exquisite piece of writing. An ode to Death, and I found it beautiful and crushing and the balm I needed in this moment where Death has crawled into the spotlight and lingered.
I’ve worked with both these people - at the same time.
Rob Reiner either made your favorite movie, or made somebody you know’s favorite movie. If you’re a Californian, he’s also part of the reason you or your friends can get married. He has changed more lives for the better than this asshole commenting on him ever did.
Well-chosen and utterly depressing.
Deck the hall with boughs of holly, Fa, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la! "Tis the season to be jolly: a, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la! Fill the meadcup, drain the barrel, Fa, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la! Troll the ancient Christmas carol. Fa, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la!
TIL the original lyrics to Deck the Halls are awesome and “don we now our gay apparel” is temperance movement bullshit
The magic of someone who has lived an uncompromised life.
I have always wanted to design greeting cards, but I find the usual sentiments saccharine and uninspired. Finally, I’ve found the path through, and I’m happy to share the first of my winter holiday designs. Happy dark Noel to you and yours. May the Yulecat pass you by. ##yulecat #happyholidays
We are makers, dear humans. Don’t let our corporate overlords tear you down.
Sorry for using comics and art to vent and cope with the world changing around me. I will return to drawing whimsical and silly frog wizards and adventures.
Thanksgivings are normally a time of chaotic joy, but this weekend I took the time to work on an illustration for a contest. I’ve been a fan of Edward Gorey since I was a Ghastly Tiny, so this was a labor of love. Can’t wait to share the final results.

Before there was internet, there was the quiet joy of finding a package in the mail.
This beautiful anthology from #Interim Poetics was a labor of love for so many.
Congratulations to my fellow authors, the artists, and the editorial staff. I’m honored to be in your company. #cnf
I call the two-stroke whine of leaf-blowers the Battle Song of New England. My bane. My nemesis. My mortal enemy.
It’s decided. Today, I will let this image be my guide.
I felt this way about Piranesi.
