Tonight's @fm4.orf.at Heartbeat from 22.00CET/9pmGMT profits from the lucky coincidence of living in a world where great humans choose to make music (was going to say "for a living"). Comes with tribute to the late Asha Bhosle. (not that I’m qualified). Playlist:

What a nightmare scenario. Were better off with the records.
To promote a truly great book!
RIP Asha Bhosle
This prayer, sung by Bhosle with Ali Akbar Khan, was one of the first pieces of Indian music I heard.

If you know East Kent a bit you will have seen this coming. And it’s not just artsy DfLs either who made this happen.
Reliably behind the news cycle, I wrote this for @fm4.orf.at about the all-round disaster of the Kanye cancellation and what it says about the state of antifascist politics and a monopolised UK festival scene.
Auf Deutsch selbstverständlich.

paying tribute to Terry Cox (pic) & Chip Taylor, but also plenty of new stuff, much of it can’t help being topical, from the allegorical to the literal. Main point is we’re not alone.

Was für ein Fund! Danke!
Nearly forgot: it would have been poor Ronnie Lane’s 80th birthday today.
Incidentally, the Dobro on this might be Eric Clapton’s best recorded guitar part, not kidding at all.

We felt the same. Ethan Hawke…!
I’ve already seen a few die-hard loyalists lose faith over this, over at the old people’s place.
It just might prove to be the thing that’s impossible to explain away.

Blue Moon is just brilliant. Performance, staging, and most of all the script.
I wrote something about International Law, the war on Iran, and the world we all have to live in. Auf Deutsch wie üblich.
Good for him! I should be working too :-)
If the Guardian called right now, I’d think it was a great idea. As they won’t, I’m going to agree with you.
Your last album did say that, I thought.
Yes. And there’s nothing wrong with a little self-mythologisation (what Ian MacDonald used to chide Lennon for). I do think of Bowie every single time I cycle up Nürnberger Straße. If I lived in Liverpool I’d be the same with Paul after hearing this.
Just listened, I think it’s heartbreakingly sad. Only because of it sounds like he’s telling himself to be brave and what’s coming out is mostly just stock phrases, but that vulnerable old voice is what is actually saying more in its texture than the words. It’s his Where Are We Now, I think.
Trump: "They shot the now-famous Ireland--- the island that the UK was very afraid to give us."
yes and still he always comes away as Mr Reasonable somehow
Of course, everyone’s going ask that nice Mr Gove lots of questions now about how this could happen.
No? Ah well…
Spectator going the full Stürmer. Really interesting how islamophobic imagery is directly derived from antisemitic precedent.
Under the proposals, those sentenced to death would be held in a separate facility with no visits except from authorised personnel, with legal consultations conducted only by video link. Executions would be carried out within 90 days of sentencing. The measure allows courts to impose the death penalty without a request from prosecutors, and without requiring unanimity, instead permitting a simple majority decision. Military courts in the occupied West Bank would also be empowered to hand down death sentences, with the defence minister able to submit an opinion.
Ben-Gvir, among the most ardent backers of the bill, has repeatedly worn a noose-shaped lapel pin - a symbol of the method by which Palestinians could be executed under the proposed law. He described hanging as "one of the options" for implementing the death penalty, adding that alternatives could include the electric chair or "euthanasia". He also claimed to have received support from doctors willing to participate in executions, saying they had told him: "Just tell us when"
“The only democracy in the middle east” in action. The moral descent has been so rapid, reading this stuff can seem like some obscene fantasy, and yet…

Wonderful variety of styles (and a great dig at Moby) in @robertrotifer.bsky.social's indispensable radio show: Raincoats (doing "Lola"!), Sage Darley, Bill Frisell, Bettina Köster (RIP), Tim Hardin, Manuela, Clémentine March, Tenderness, Tracyanne & Danny, Jackie West.
