Reading about the victims of the mass shooting in Shreveport and contemplating the anniversary of Columbine just makes me really sad. What an indictment of America.

This clip right here is part of the reason why I cannot be a practicing Catholic right now. It really has gotten this bad in a lot of places.
My family knows that if they refer to Pericles as “the cat” in any setting there will be trouble. He is not to be referred to by his species only.
Is there anyone here who is having great success recruiting students to sign up for Latin and Greek, particularly freshmen?
Rishi Sunak wrote something a couple weeks ago about learning from Rome to save the west. With American bombs falling in Iran and our prez planning a triumphal arch, it provoked me more than such bad takes usually do. Thanks to @salon.com for the opportunity to comment www.salon.com/2026/04/14/w...
We have a language consortium in our city of public and private institutions and a community college. Part of the deal is that none of the faculty can be regular faculty at any of the member institutions, so it’s all adjuncts. I fear that may be the fate of all the languages in the area.
She’s ok. I’m a little tense.
Tfw you read “The Peace Book” by Todd Parr to your kid and are filled with despair. #booksky
The oracle knew what it was talking about!
Is anyone else reminded of Croesus and the oracle when Trump says “a whole civilization will die tonight”?
But isn’t that true of all his speeches?

Not great.
It would depend a lot on your interest rate, but speak to a financial planner about your situation.
I don’t understand why you would want to. You would be very heavily invested in real estate and have nothing that could be easily liquidated in case of emergency. It’s usually better to diversify your investments. Speak to a financial planner before you do that.

Pope Leo this week called universal health coverage a "moral imperative."
He also said: “Health cannot be a luxury for the few,” it is “an essential condition for social peace.”

I’ve been reading Black Pill by Elle Reeve. Is the theory that Augustus was on the autism spectrum widely held or was it just one alt right extremist?
Happy Pi Day to all the Hellenists celebrating.

I'd watch a muppet show movie where the muppets infiltrate an academic conference.
Tweet from charles murray: "DEI causes me to feel fatigue. "Diversity," "equity," and "inclusion" aren't inherently bad; it's the distortion of the concepts in implementation that fatigues. Christopher Nolan casting a black woman as Helen of Troy in The Odyssey causes me to feel hostility. It is a deliberate assault on a treasure of Western Civilization. But the same thing applies on a lesser scale to the casting in Bridgerton. It's a distortion of a historical setting in the service of an ideology, and I find it offensive. OTOH, I'm old and grumpy."
Just in case you were skeptical that discussions about Nolan's Odyssey are proxy conversatioms here's Charles Murray pronouncing the choice of Helen as a "deliberate assault on western civilization"
