this is a half formed idea and I’m very tired but: I sort of think a lot of Americans won’t recognise a civil war if it happens. because it’s not gonna look like the 1860’s war. it’s gonna look like late 20th century Ireland

The Troubles was a dark, dark time. Everybody was trapped in a never-ending spiral of violence and death that had no end. It impacted every aspect of life - there was no escape when you went home. You couldn't switch off. It was poison injected into society and it corroded everything part of life.

Donald Trump commandeered 2,000 of our state’s National Guard members to deploy on our streets.

Illegally, and for no reason.

The Trump Administration is mobilizing an additional 2,000 National Guard troops to inflame tensions in LA, impacting the state’s wildfire prevention & fentanyl task force efforts.

Trump doesn't care about protecting Californians. He’s militarizing our state & provoking chaos.

Defending the Peace Corps When It Needs No Defense In a nation that no longer knows what to do with humility, service itself has become suspect.

“Peace Corps was our softest power. It didn’t surveil. It didn’t sell. It didn’t conquer. It held the crying child. It learned the language. And it stayed.
That mattered. Not just for them. For us.
Because Peace Corps wasn’t just a service program. It was a witness”

DOGE initially promised to save taxpayers $2 trillion.

Now it admits it's only delivered $160B in cuts.

And even those minimal savings are nearly wiped out by the cost of implementing DOGE's cuts: $135B.

We're losing vital government services for basically nothing in return.

Big Day of Giving 2025 By Sierra Service Project

Every month I donate to Sierra Service Project (www.sierraserviceproject.org).

I wouldn’t be the man I am today without the influence SSP had on my life as a youth & young adult…

2025 is SSP’s 50th anniversary. For half a century they’ve been a bright spot in dark times:

In my youth, we were inspired by our govt to serve, to volunteer, to help our fellow man around the world. We were inspired by JFK, the Peace Corps, USAID, then later Americares. To have that instilled in us, then watch it being destroyed by the richest men in the world is a sickening perversion.

You can’t say criminals don’t deserve due process when due process is the thing that decides if they're criminals. Otherwise you're just kidnapping people you don't like.

Huge crowds indeed.

Video from Fight The Oligarchy Rally, Folsom California, 4/15/25.

Over 30,000 people (video doesn’t even show everyone inside the rally, let alone the miles-long line outside).

Likely the biggest event in Folsom’s history

two men are standing next to each other in a garden . ALT: two men are standing next to each other in a garden .

A great perk of listening to The Muckrake Podcast:
Not only do you get top-notch political analysis packed into every eps,

but you also get a lite sprinkling of obscure (aka awesome) Gen X/Xennial pop-culture references throughout.
I’m here for it
