Yesterday, attempting to long-expose some last rays of sun washing through the clouds.
The rain came and left, then some tourists arrived and I made this photo. A camera on a tripod allows me to look around and see what else is happening.
Thinking about a world torn apart yet so full of love.
Found a great spot to photograph in the Hudson Valley: a combination of slight elevation, train tracks, the magnificent river and to top it all - a power plant!
Here are some shots. Last photo is a mix of train exposure with my trichromatic technique but I think it's a bit too much in this case.
A walk on the shore of the Mohawk River, near Vischer Ferry's hydroelectric dam, watching the fishermen at work.
Part of my "State of Empire" trichromatic series. An image from this project is currently on view @vcpbrattleboro Why We Look exhibition!

In 2010, Sixteen years ago today my father, Shimon, passed away. Last year I started scanning some of his slides, photographs he made circa 1965 to 1968, before I was born.
To my surprise I found some locations that he photographed then that unbeknownst to me I photographed as well, in 2019.
What We Have / What We Lost - a four lane car and pedestrian bridge at the site of the Rexford Erie Canal boat aqueduct on the Mohawk River...
A 12 minute trichromatic exposure / Historical photo from Erie Canal Museum archives.

Visited Rexford NY to see the remnants of the aqueduct crossing the Mohawk River. Hard to believe but boats crossed on this aqueduct. Built in 1842, in operation until 1916.
Seems like even though I am done with my Erie Canal Museum artist residency I keep finding great spots to photograph.
Poetry is not a Luxury! Spent a lovely, rainy Saturday in Brattleboro, VT. Exploring the town after a wonderful art opening at VCP Brattleboro on Friday for the exhibition so thoughtfully curated and meet so many artists passionate about making images and thinking about the topic: Why We Look.
Tonight! See you in Brattleboro, Vermont.
I'll be there from 5 to 8PM for the opening reception of VCP's annual juried exhibition, Why We Look, curated by Marvin Heiferman.
Friday, March 6th, 5:00–8:00pm at Vermont Center for Photography. vcphoto.org
The hydroelectric dam at Vischer Ferry on the Mohawk River, generating about 55 GWh annually. A really lovely spot visited on a very cold morning...
The exhibition @whywelook - Questioning the World Before Us, that opens up tomorrow! March 6th at @vcpbrattleboro - come see it and say hello!
USS Slater, a WWII-era destroyer escort ship (now a museum) the last remaining vessel of its kind, in the shadow of Dunn Memorial Bridge with Empire Generating plant in the background.
Various levels of power, energy and nature in one image - American Power - seems like a theme for our time.
Spier Falls Dam, Moreau. A hydroelectric dam on the Hudson River between the towns of Moreau and Lake Luzerne, New York. Spier Falls Dam generates about 56 MW annually. A nice little spot to acknowledge and document the power of water in our lives.

A view of a plant with chimney spewing air unto a very colorful sky
View of a trash incinerator plant in Peekskill, NY - part of my project - "State of Empire".

A fairly idyllic view down the Hudson River with just a touch of menace when one observes closely. On the left is the unavoidable shape of a concrete nuclear dome at Indian Point Energy Center, which stopped operating in 2021.

Quite a view in Peekskill as I continue on my energy documentation project - "State of Empire". On view here is a trash incinerator plant, previously named Wheelabrator Westchester (now called WIN Waste Westchester).
Spotted this magic on the way to my dentist the other day. Ordinary becomes extraordinary.
In a pipe and factory state of mind while waiting for fresh snow... Which one you do like best - 1 or 2?

Here is my humble homage to brilliant photographer George Tice, who passed away one year ago today.
Based on research, I knew the surroundings had changed radically. I decided to make photos all around it and enjoy the feeling of walking and photographing where Tice walked and photographed in 1974.
1/1/2026 - first photo: Sunny and very cold.
12/31/2025 - second photo: Cloudy and just chilly.
Photographing "my" @olanafredericchurch tree as the year changes. It was nice to document this wonderful tree with the sun kissing it today.
Last photo for 2025: 1/105 second of a roofer / 15 seconds of freight train, Mechanicville, NY. Happy New Year! More details about this diptych on my Instagram: www.instagram.com/p/DS8Gs_wEYV...

Waiting for me at Still Water

Around Albany, yesterday. The sky opened up just as I arrived to this location and let me do my trichromatic series of exposures just before the light was gone.
This was after a long day of walking around downtown. There is no substitute to walking around with a camera, preferably on a tripod.
A wooden pipe over a water stream leading to a hydroelectric dam. the photograph depicts the scene in vibrant sky colors due to a technique known as trichromatic.
Exploring more hydroelectric plants (and pipes) for a potential new series of photos. Was surprised to see that this pipe is made of wood, see close up photo for various water leaks. A really lovely spot and an exciting direction for me. #photography #longexposure #trichromatic #hydroelectric #dam
Ten years ago I wrote this personal essay, marking twenty years since Rabin was assassinated.
Now, another ten years have passed.

Lately I've been in love with pipes and tubes. From our own bodily veins carrying precious blood around to industrial-size pipes.
Last week I stopped by the village of Wappingers Falls and discovered this wonderful pipe snaking through and bringing water down to their hydroelectric plant.
Ithaca, Greece
Sharon in her store. Sharon runs the lovely Calsi's General Store in the village of Wassaic, NY. It's much more than a general store and compliments this lovely village so perfectly.
