I interviewed the wonderful Nicky Trevorrow of @catsprotection.bsky.social about cat scratching habits for Petplan: www.petplan.co.uk/cat-insuranc.... Our conversation prompted me to get this scratching post for my cat www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000634MH.... Bit pricey, but cheaper than new carpets/sofas!

Snowing in RH19. Small flakes but settling on icy ground. 3/10. #uksnow
#uksnow Big fat fluffy flakes in RH19 this morning ❄️ Started to settle but now melted away 😢
My children’s primary school was a polling station. One polling day, the only election in our area was for the Police & Crime Commissioner. 415 kids lost a day of schooling & all their families had to arrange alternative care. 13 people voted.
“Yellow car, no returns!” has been a thing here in Sussex for a year or two, & I’ve seen my goddaughter & her brother in Kent low-level assault each other over it too.
It may not be English rural life, but I still reckon @themerl.bsky.social would like to see this
A family friend lent my dad a Nixdorf, something like this, for a couple of days around 1979. I remember him telling tiny me that it was the future. In the mid-80s we had a BBC Micro at primary school and one at home. The cool kids had ZX Spectrums.
Share by Anthea Simmons & Georgie Birkett was the book my two-year-old requested most when her little brother arrived.

25+ years as an editor, and it's still exciting to think of my hot-off-the-press magazines going into people's homes. Look at gorgeous Barney collecting his owner's spring edition of Walk from the doormat 🐶
I'm always tickled when @aiannucci.bsky.social pronounces it "Ellen Musk" on the #StrongMessageHere podcast with @helenlewis.bsky.social
One thing that’s stayed with me from Ethel & Ernest, Raymond Briggs’ story of his parents’ marriage, is that Ernest’s salary as a milkman in 1930 secures them a mortgage to buy a family home in Wimbledon Park!
Discovered recently that the Autoglass jingle is a global phenomenon 🤯 m.youtube.com/watch?v=STiP...
Nightmare-fodder watched at primary school: The Boy from Space was a creepy series within the BBC's Look & Read educational programme; Robbie a public information film about the dangers of playing near railway lines - football-loving Robbie has his legs sliced off by a speeding train 😱

Children put out a mince pie for Santa… but Jemima beat him to it!
I think my son's asked for this set for Christmas
Utterly gutted that I can't now see Jane Austen improv comedy Austentatious @austenimpro.bsky.social this Sunday, as my Austen-loving bestie Polly has pneumonia. Our tickets are with the Arts Theatre box office for resale, in case anyone else fancies a festive outing to this sold-out West End show.

After 25+ years in magazines, today I published my first digital-only mag. It works on phone, tablet & computer &, being the Ramblers' mag, it's full of gorgeous photography, uplifting stories & inspiration for adventures. Plus I got to interview Bill Bailey 🤩 Do have a browse: walk.ramblers.org.uk
I could always rely on Dan Wuori's posts about early childhood development to bring joy & fascination to my timeline, even as Xitter got shitter. Delighted he's on Bluesky too. Well worth a follow, whether you're an early years professional, a parent, or just a human being. @danwuori.bsky.social
For you, @garenewing.bsky.social
Chose the blue-skyiest photo I could find for my first profile pic here, taken on a glorious October ramble along the Thames Path at Runnymede.
