This is such a cool illustration of how the Mercator map distorts the size of Greenland, which looks as big as the whole continent of Africa on that map but is actually the size of Mexico.

I love this book! At age 55 I told my mother I wanted to be a dragon when I grew up!
What I wouldn’t give for a mass dragoning right now

Do Not Comply In Advance: bossy, already a cliche, implies permission to comply later

Fuck You, Make Me: leads by example, directs yelling at opposition instead of allies, easy to chant at a protest or put on a banner

100% agree. How does it make sense to think MG is ages 8-12? It’s literally in the name - middle grade= middle school.
Buying reading accessible books for HS now means finding mostly cartoonish covers with kids who look like they’re 7.

I haven’t seen anyone connect these events, but the TikTok recovery is giving me flashbacks to Reagan’s hostage release.
Just gross. Back door, private negotiations, oligarchy, and propaganda.

Media Literacy is a huge part of learning about AI. Filters on TikTok, deepfake videos, photos that are automatically altered and stitched together in your phone camera. Our students need to be able to understand how to identify what is real.

Individual, to help kids understand their reading needs/preferences (pace, comprehension, etc) and to choose better books so that indep reading is actually beneficial for them.

Looking for guidance on what used to be called readers workshop/conferences. My ELA dept indep reading program isn’t going v well so I’m looking for current best practices for HS students only. My reading exp is from the Nancie Atwell era so need updates! Recommendations?

As a lazy person, if I didn’t already hate 45/47’s administration, I’d hate them anyway because they’re giving me so much paperwork to do

Hi @edusky.bsky.social I’m a HS librarian in Palm Springs, former ELA teacher. Was pshslibrary at the other site and still am on IG. I don’t post a lot, but I miss the convos!

The maddening thing about 'let the people decide' is Trump lost the popular vote by a 2.9 mil margin in '16 and then attempted a coup when he lost by 7 mil 4 yrs later. His party lost every year in between. The people have decided repeatedly and there's no guarantee we wouldn't have a repeat of '16.
