Because you had the receipts.
Because you held them accountable.
Because you caught them slipping.
It had nothing to do with me—and everything to do with THEM.
Here’s the kicker: They still let me go.
And that’s when I learned one of the realest lessons in business:
You can dot every “i”, cross every “t”, save every email, record every meeting, and STILL be let go.
Not because you weren’t competent—but because you were too prepared.
And in that meeting?
🎤 I stated my case
📧 I showed the emails
🎥 I played the recorded Zoom meetings
🖥️ I shared my screen and receipts
I made it very clear: I was doing exactly what I was instructed to do. No more, no less.
So how am I getting penalized for following direction?
So when I got pinged for a fourth 1-on-1
ON MY DAY OFF
I knew what time it was.
I requested a meeting with HR, all team leads, and the supervisor present.
During each of those 1-on-1s, I asked the team lead directly, “What is the correct process?”
They told me XYZ.
I took notes.
I followed up with an email to confirm I understood the process correctly—and guess what? They confirmed it back to me.
I did this after every meeting.
Let me tell you about the time I worked for a communications company and ended up in three back-to-back 1-on-1s for apparently “doing things wrong.”
Now the first 1-on-1? Fair. I’m new—I’m open to learning.
But the next two? They had nothing to do with me and everything to do with lack of clarity.
Most of the clients I work with don’t have an onboarding process.
No SOPs.
No systems.
Just vibes and expectations.
And I’ve learned the hard way that when there’s no structure, it’s way too easy for folks to point fingers when something goes wrong—even if you’re doing everything right.
Listen… don’t do that!
