Solidarity unionism lineage, highest respect

Fletcher and Local 8's interweaving of class struggle and Black liberation was very on point and would not be out of place in today's cutting edge thinking on the topic in places like @hammerandhope.bsky.social

It can be scary, it can be hard

But it rarely fails to be rewarding to deepen a relationship with a coworker and facilitate their entrance into unionism

Unions are responding to the Chavez revelations in the same way they did seven years ago. So far, all we have seen are statements expressing shock and sadness, and support for survivors. Those are little more than the hollow “thoughts and prayers” politicians send in times of man-made crises. The steps that unions have taken since #MeToo have done little, if anything, to dismantle the systems that enable sexual harassment to exist within the house of labor, and they have done even less to support survivors who were betrayed by their unions.

There's no such thing as an unorganizable industry. Only ones where workers are still figuring out a model that works.

Solidarity with these courageous workers.

we haven’t launched publicly, but we’ve been building under the radar since 2022. Our first campaigns go public next year, they are worker-led-and-operated, prioritize direct action, and aim for fundamental change. Those are our hallmarks, we are happy to connect with anyone who resonates with that.

so SUN is folks just like me, a rank and file worker, and it always will be. As our work has grown, we’ve decided to field a staff, starting with your comrade @dgorganize.bsky.social who helped convene SUN.

SUN came together during the pandemic, when workers in different industries interested in unions that prioritized worker control alongside racial and gender justice, found each other and started doing joint trainings. That work evolved into SUN.

for now, the most important thing is that sununion.org provides a form for workers who need support to reach out and talk to someone at SUN within 24 hours. From there, workers connect to trainings, tools, and mutual learning spaces to build a sustainable union. And it's working.

hey dave, i’m jeff. I’m on the digital/comms team at SUN and am building a SUN union at my place of work.

we at SUN made a decision on day one to favor coworker to coworker organizing, so the web stuff hasn’t been the number one priority. we’ll make it better soon, but it'll never be the fanciest.

SUN stands in solidarity with the survivors of Cesar Chavez’s sexual abuse. Abuse like this requires the actions of the predator but also surrounding institutions and structures. We must strive for a labor movement in which abuse of any kind is not tolerated and that requires a full reckoning.

We're thrilled to report out a big milestone: the inaugural SUN General Assembly will take place in California on the weekend of Feb 21 - 22

SUN started as a joint training space, evolved into a community of union builders, and now is an organization of emerging worker led-and-operation unions 🧡

SUN is in full support of the city-wide stoppage in Minneapolis on Friday and will have members participating in solidarity from out of state.

We honor the lineage of this action including the Great American Boycott of 2006 and the movements in solidarity with Philando Castile and George Floyd.

No one has the collective wisdom and power that coworkers do to build unions that win and sustain.

As committed practitioners of designing and testing our own union models, we'll thrilled for workers to be able to connect with these tools.

We honor Renee's memory and commemorate her courageous service to the working class.

The most powerful response to fascist violence has always been the might of organized workers committed to freedom.

Let us redouble our efforts to build unions fit for the task...and stay active on the streets!

As a poet and a mom murdered in defense of the immigrant workers who were her neighbors, Renee Good joins the long list of labor's martyrs.

States are violent and working people have been among their chief victims, especially Black and Brown workers as well as the most underpaid white workers.

Remember when they called us stuck in the past when we talked about colonialism?

Anti-imperialist unions now

It's not just a nice-to-have or a good moral thing to do. It's essential to our mutual liberation

We’re happy to have had already planned for today a strategy formulation training. It’s on developing worker-to-worker, transnational campaigns against imperialism.

It is beyond clear that we need anti-imperialist unions and global coworker solidarity as much as ever.

We don't need higher-ups to answer to

We can do the same at our workplaces and in society
