Excited to kick off 2026 as a junior PI at the University of Geneva, with a focus on multicellular coordination in organs and organisms. Looking forward to new collegiality and collaborations—plus mountains and lakes. I’m also recruiting a PhD student on excitable dynamics in organogenesis.

Neuroendocrine control of calcium mobilization in the fruit fly - Nature The peptide hormone Capa is responsible for regulating extracellular fluid Ca2+ levels in the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster.

Beautiful "fundamental physiology" paper in a glamour journal - there is still some hope!

A switch to non-proliferative growth sustains Drosophila wing development during the early pupal stage Using precise tissue volume quantification, El Marzkioui, Gaugué, et al. show that wing primordia continue to grow during the early pupal stage, a phase of increased cell volume driven by insulin/IGF ...

Our new paper is out in @currentbiology.bsky.social! Using 3D reconstructions and volume measurements in Drosophila wing primordia, we show that growth can be uncoupled from cell proliferation and uncover a new time window for growth arrest.

The importance of delivering Recherche d'Avenir – research for the future In recent years, several European countries, including France, have reduced their investment in scientific research, with biomedical research taking a significant hit. The primary casualty is basic re...

In her Essay, Renata Basto highlights the huge budget cuts facing the scientific community in France. In response to the cuts, a group of researchers has formed the ‘Pour une Recherche d'Avenir’ initiative to secure the future of French research.
