Cruel last minute evictions before the Renters' Rights Act comes into force - tenants kicked out of their homes without warning or reason - show just how badly these reforms are needed in the first place.
1 May can't come soon enough.

With rents soaring far beyond wages, more people are at risk of being scammed into paying for homes that either don’t exist, or are short term lets.
Rental scams thrive because housing isn’t affordable.
Listen to our Head of Campaigns, @nyejones92.bsky.social, explain on BBC Radio London:
Lovely to be featured in my old university law school's newsletter, raising awareness of the upcoming legal improvements to renters' rights.
From a scholarship to study a law masters at the University of Warwick ten years ago, to helping to change laws now. Read here 👇

The @mayoroflondon.bsky.social has launched a £400,000 support package to help organisations and tenants’ unions prepare for the Renters’ Rights Act.
This will ensure Londoners get the support they need and real benefits reach people’s homes!

We're working with the London Mayor and Assembly to make sure every renter in the capital understands their new rights.
Check out our submission to the Housing Committee last month on where the focus should be: www.generationrent.org/2026/03/24/t...
Please let us know if you want to invite @generationrent.bsky.social to speak in your area or online & sign up to our stakeholder mailing list for renter-facing resources and events in the build up to our Renters’ Rights Awareness Week at the end of April www.generationrent.org/get-renters-... I had the privilege of speaking at a fantastic event in Bristol yesterday hosted by Alice Tibbert & Housing Matters, telling 250+ professionals in the West of England about the incoming changes. This kind of event should be a model for all our regions in England. [3/4]
I am so proud to be shouting from the rooftops that the Renters’ Rights Act is coming on 1st May… [2/4]
38 years ago Section 21 evictions were born, leading to millions of renters being evicted with no reason given and through no fault of their own.
In 38 days’ time, those evictions will be consigned to history. [1/4]
After we intervened, the government reduced planned fees from 'hundreds' down to £47 for renters to challenge unfair rent increases.
When you have to pay to exercise a right, it becomes a privilege. We're glad the government listened, but more must be done to ensure renters can access their rights.
We are very sorry to be saying goodbye to the fantastic @bentwomeyuk.bsky.social, but I have no doubt the world will hear a great deal more of him in future. And now we at @generationrent.bsky.social have a big job to fill…
On that note, we're looking for an experienced and compassionate individual to help us influence change and give renters a say in the decisions that shape their lives. Please share our advert for the next Chief Executive of Generation Rent 🏘️ [6/6]

Let's save the goodbyes for the summer, and there's many more people I need to thank for their kindness and support at that time (maybe you, reading this!) - but in the meantime, the fight for better renting continues... [5/6]
While I’m excited about what’s ahead and look forward to sharing more in due course, I remain deeply supportive of Generation Rent and confident in its continued success standing up for renters across the UK. [4/6]
The timing feels right to pass on the baton, with the Renters’ Rights Act coming into force in England, and elections taking place to decide who will take housing policy into its next phases in Scotland and Wales over the coming years. [3/6]
I’m so grateful to our fantastic team and the wider renter movement who have made the experience so impactful and enjoyable.
I’ve chosen to take some time to explore a set of long-standing interests and projects that I haven’t previously had the space to pursue. [2/6]
Personal news 🧵 I am stepping down from my role as Chief Executive at Generation Rent UK in July.
Leading the organisation over the last three years has been unbelievably rewarding, and I’m immensely proud of the change that we’ve achieved together. [1/6]
Plans to make rented homes cheaper to heat were announced by the government back in January. We've published a new report on what needs to happen to make this a reality and make sure renters benefit in full.

Here's a thread with the basics 🧵
Reducing energy bills, carbon emissions and the UK’s reliance on fossil fuels should be a win-win-win, but vested interests are trying to block it.
