Coachella is trying to wipe all of the footage of The Strokes protest set so I’m gonna post it here. The last images on the screen made me cry.

If Meta adds face recognition to their “smart” glasses, it would force their panopticon onto us all.

From Clickhole's "Incredible! We Asked These Astronauts What It’s Like To Be In Space," Barry Wilmore: You never know true beauty until you see Earth from space, or true terror until you hear someone knocking on the space station door from outside. You look through the porthole and see an astronaut, but all your crew is inside and accounted for. You use the comm to ask who it is and he says he’s Ramirez returning from a repair mission, but Ramirez is sitting right next to you in the command module and he’s just as confused as you are. When you tell the guy this over the radio he starts banging on the door louder and harder, begging you to let him in, saying he’s the real Ramirez. Meanwhile, the Ramirez inside with you is pleading to keep the airlock shut. It really puts life on Earth into perspective.

This Artemis moon mission is a truly unifying international project, one of the few we have left | Christopher Riley For the first time in over 50 years, astronauts will see Earth from distant space. Let’s hope the images they send back of our fragile home bring some much-needed unity, says author Christopher Riley

Lying on the lunar surface(...) will be a tiny disc of messages from world leaders from (...)1969. One by (...)Eric Williams, then prime minister of Trinidad and Tobago: “It is our earnest hope of mankind that while we gain the moon, we shall not lose the world."

Important update on the toilet situation:

"Houston, we have a [loo] problem"

They are working on fixing it and there are back up plans, and it still works for number twos, which are the more critical one when it comes to comfort for the next 10 days!

Already its the most distant plumbing job ever

Three hours to launch and they're already in their seats, I dread to think how many adverts they've got to sit through #artemis

Fun fact: This is apparently the first mission with a Universal Waste Management System. Commonly known as a "toilet".

“Rise,” designed by Lucas Ye of Mountain View, California, as the zero gravity indicator that will fly with the crew around the Moon. “Rise” was inspired by the iconic Earthrise moment from the Apollo 8 mission. A zero gravity indicator is a small plush item that typically rides with a crew to visually indicate when they are in space.

If you use GitHub (especially if you pay for it!!) consider doing this *immediately*

Settings -> Privacy -> Disallow GitHub to train their models on your code.

GitHub opted *everyone* into training. No matter if you pay for the service (like I do). WTH

It can happen! If you try to climb Mount Everest for example.

What are you grateful for today?
I'm grateful for my brain not swelling with fluid because of the physiological effects of traveling to a high altitude.
