Yesterday, at 87, my dad & former Ontario NDP leader Stephen Lewis, stood for an hour by the road in his old riding.
As a Jewish elder, he stood against genocide embodying the values he has always championed. I am so proud to see him on the right side of history – as always. ❤️

This is where I will be on Saturday. The fragile ceasefire is welcome, as is the deal for returning Palestinians and Israelis from captivity. Ultimately though, there are no long term solutions except those based on justice, equality and freedom for all from war and occupation.
We have to prevent Robinson’s supporters trying to claim city centres but the hard work to turn the tide against the far right will rest on building local alliances defending communities attack and deepening anti-racist outlooks among the wider public.

They are prioritising the narrow interests of the Israeli state, presided over by its most far-right government ever, over the interests and welfare of ordinary Jews in Britain, in a period when far right forces are growing globally. They don’t like Jews freely determining their own opinions. 8/9
This week nearly 1,000 Jews, including sone Holocaust survivors and their descendants, have signed a statement condemning attempts to prevent democratic protest on this issue. Jewish bodies that cheer the suppression of protest do not have the interests of the wider Jewish community at heart. 7/9
More than a week ago the police promised to set up a meeting with a delegation of Jews including veterans of those struggles, who have regularly attended the marches, to consider their points of view. That promised meeting has not materialised. 6/9
Not surprising given that Jewish people, including veterans of struggles against racism and fascism here and against apartheid in South Africa, are part of these marches in an organised Jewish Bloc, and regularly speak on the platforms of the rallies that accompany the marches. 5/9
The police have been acknowledged that in the course of dozens of national protest marches in London demanding a permanent ceasefire, an end to killings, ending sales of arms to the state that has carried out war crimes almost non-stop for 15 months, no such threats to synagogues have existed. 4/9
