If you’re unwilling to think critically and consider the implications of the ideas you cling to, I have no time for your silliness.

Nah, I just was annoyed and not reading closely. My bad!
Other than that issue, my point remains the same
You’re right my eye skipped past the “not”.
My bad, sorry Cindy!
Are we all just skipping past Cindy claiming she’s a Jew?
I’m so so tired of this same conversation over and over.
Also, her thesis of false Xians only read OT is immediately disproved by her “false” Xian Hegseth slandering the Pharisees *using the NT*
What are we doing people?
I'm not rabid - really! - but I'm not reading Klein even when he writes a good piece. While @ezraklein.bsky.social must, I am sure, have insights from time to time, he is not expert in a niche field that can never be understood without reading him.
Meanwhile, he actively undermines moral standards.
In a court of law, you turnip.
People are allowed to form their own opinions and draw their moral lines absent a formal finding of guilt.
Exactly.
If no one seems to understand what you’re arguing, either they’re all gibbering morons, your argument is terrible unclear an poorly argued, or you’re just incorrect.
What seems most likely?
If multiple smart people (who are experts in a field you are commenting on) misunderstand you… you might just be wrong.
There’s a difference between theological claims (which are inherently unprovable) and historic/linguistic claims.
A collection of Hebrew books
A collection of Hebrew books, I think volumes of the Babylonian Talmud
More Hebrew books
Back home, figured some pics would help with cataloguing (esp if owner wanted to keep). tried to put volumes together in order but I don’t read Hebrew, apologies if wrong, no offense intended. A bunch of volumes are missing so going to go see if any other bins nearby had any just in case
Can anyone connected to North London religious Judaism help me out? Just found a library of Hebrew religious texts (Talmud, rabbinic commentary, book of prayers, etc), maybe 30 nice hard cover books overflowing a public bin. Is there anyone who could use this I can give it to?
For a lawyer he don’t really write good.
I fundamentally do not understand some people.
The difference between cucumbers and pickles is jarring.
No you haven’t you absolute turnip.
You’re just saying what you think, that is not citation.
Our “nuh uhs” carry weight because we are THE TARGETS OF ANTISEMITIC DOGWHISTLES. We have the lived authority here, you’re just shooting your mouth because you can’t fucking read.
Big picture, I have an issue with careless use of Christian stories that have historically been used to demonize contemporary Jews. But the key there is “careless”
I admit I do not like “Pharisee” as an insult.
Mostly for how (in pop imagination) they are Jesus’ villains, when they’re just doing normal Jewish stuff.
Also, we know things about the Pharisees that are antithetical to the biblical narrative so it grinds my historian gears
YOURE JUST SAYING WHAT YOU PERSONALLY THINK YOU FUCKING MUFFIN
*ahem* sorry about that. Look, you’re just wrong. If this is your claim, you should at least dig up some citations re shibboleth being used as a dog whistle or some proof that OP is a WN.
Otherwise you’re just a windbag
Completely!
I get a bee in my bonnet when Xian/Xian acculturated people go off on the temple cleansing story (especially if the misrepresent what we actually know about 1st C Jewish practice)
But that’s because it’s a story that’s been used to negatively stereotype Jews
Not just a biblical word
I do and I’m telling you as a Jew that neither “shibboleth” generally nor the OP’s use of it specifically is an antisemitic dog whistle.
You are claiming a use of a word demeans Jews. Jews are showing up to tell you that you’re wrong.
Now either we are incapable of identifying anti-Jewish prejudice (that we deal with on a day to day basis) or you misunderstood OP’s point and are now digging a rhetorical hole
I will type slowly…
Jews (or any minority) have authority when they say “this language targets/demeans me”.
What do you think shekel means? I’m afraid to ask.
Also, are you unfamiliar with the concept of loan words?
And as far as authority goes…
No Jew on this thread agrees with your assessment, that might be an opportunity to reexamine your position.
You made an initial wrong call, that’s fine. You don’t have to keep digging.
That’s my point shekel is not a common loan word that has been used (consistently) by literate people, for ages
English borrows a metric tone of words and idioms directly from the Christian Old Testament
Using shibboleth as OP did is not an antisemitic dog whistle, you just misunderstood the point
Dude, I hate pulling this amorphous authority card but, as a Jew: you’re completely out to lunch on this.
Yes WN do use Hebrew/Yiddish words as dog whistles/somehow insults. But they usually use words that are *not* already est. loan words.
This isn’t a dog whistle, it’s a sign of literacy.
This is a unique genre of skeet:
Totally unobjectionable and completely correct on its plain reading, absolutely wrong and horrifically bigoted when read in context.
I thought the reference to Moshiach was just her being fucking weird about Jews…
Wut?
I missed that reveal
