Hell Bound (A5.4) - Introducing a funny girlboss midway through only to kill her in the same scene sucks, but then it's inevitable when trying to do a full tilt gory horror episode about a ghost and a bunch of characters you can't kill off. There's no room to escalate, and it all feels shallow. 5/10

All of them
Most rules like this come down to needing to make not only various laws but also credit card processors happy. These fan platforms have to exist within a complicated financial and legal landscape at a time when online content is being increasingly legislated.
Unleashed (A5.3) - Again running through the obligations, but this time it has the fresh touch - gourmets dining on werewolves sure makes the familiar more fun. And that energy seems to elevate the episode, with a bit more fizz and emotional warmth. An unremarkable procedural, but a good case. 7/10
Just Rewards (A5.2) - You have to do the "Will Spike go bad?" plot if you're porting him over to Angel, sure. But this is an episode that clunks into place to do the needed groundwork but never thinks of a way to elevate it into something fresh. It's not bad or even quite boring, just there. 6/10
It's such a bummer. It genuinely was one of the few nice things going on to look forward to.
I started watching Angel season 5 ages back but had a mental block around actually writing down thoughts and have since forgotten pretty much everything. So I'm just gonna start that season over.
I'd been kinda hoping I could just go into the new Buffy show with it, but alas.
Conviction (A5.1) - Everything you'd want from a premiere. Strong case of the week that showcases why the new setup is good - and indeed better than the previous show - with time to give the whole ensemble procedural things to do while teasing what conflict might be next. Hard to fault. 9/10
Yeah, I think that's a pretty good way to look at it on multiple fronts.
I've seen a few too many people treating the No Kings protest turnouts as a progress bar as though if we get to 3.5% Trump will automatically be over and GOD I wish it were that simple.
Ah OK yeah the caveats I'd expect are pretty much exactly what even the original researcher behind that stat has noted. www.hks.harvard.edu/centers/carr...
It feels like one of those pop statistics things that's great for rallying people but I'm inclined to be critical of the amount of weight it's being given, at least without a better explanation from people with expertise as to what makes this number different.
I'm not an expert but that 3.5% protest rule for peacefully changing regimes seems a bit dodgy on a statistics front, surely? It sounds like it's taking a bunch of variables that are hard to quantify, simplifying them, drawing a trend line, and then treating correlation as causation... am I wrong?

MASSIVE WIN: no one wants to live in the united states anymore
Caught Slanted today. Very sharply observed and funny satire about assimilation. My skin is crawling.
A fan reddit did shot comparisons with the new Harry Potter trailer and it insulted the new show better than I ever could lmfao.
I know transphobia is already a trait associated with having bad taste but come the fuck on how are people excited for this?
It's genuinely at a loss as to what the selling point should be yeah
Oh my God you're right. Did it even really show any magic at all?
It's worse than I ever dared to dream ❤️
It's hilarious. They have no idea what they're selling.
They Man of Steeled Harry Potter
Even the fucking Fantastic Beasts 3 trailer had a clearer idea of what to sell people. Opening shot, LOOK IT'S HOGWARTS. PLEASE IGNORE THE CONTROVERSIES AND US SUCKING AND GIVE US MONEY.
I don't think this trailer even HAS a shot like that.
Transphobia aside (and it should never be aside) absolutely hilarious to market a series which has a core aesthetic of childhood wonder with lengthy concrete gray sequences of child bullying that aren't even in the book.
HBO Harry Potter has no idea why people ever even liked Harry Potter.
"the good news is that we have found a relatively cheap and easy way to prevent the cast from going through puberty. the bad news is that not everybody in this room is going to like it".
All of them. Twice.
Interesting choice to give the character, whose defining physical trait is oily hair that’s made fun of, dreadlocks, is all I’m saying!
They're gonna do like a whole fucking episode of him getting bullied at school and home to start it aren't they 😂 return to the wonder from your childhood!
