For me, the ideal result would be a combination of both; Republican gerrymanders fail disastrously as their base is finally too thin to do what their leaders demand of them while Democratic gerrymanders blast blue state Republicans onto the endangered species list.
Republicans knew that they were bleeding support, because the initial thing they were worried about was whether their attempt to avoid losing the House by gerrymandering would instead result in a Three Mile Island dummymander.
