Art influence others, so those codes/rules are bound to evolve, change and mix with each other with time. There are comics with multiple influences, and that's beautiful.
There's too much to say and I'll stop here. In the end: it doesn't matter how you call them, just keep drawing comics.

It is a wide subject and I can't cover everything in just a couple of posts. But you could think of the different type of comics as art movements. Like all artists doing Pointillism or Cubism had their own style, but they followed some rules/codes to be part of an Art movement.

There's different ways to talk about comics. You can use the word in your own language as an umbrella term (like comics to mean all form of stories made of drawings in a book) or the specific word comic, BD, manga, manhwa, etc. to talk about a specific type of comics that has its own codes.

But when you're studying what make a manga a manga (so not the style), you can draw manga too. Just like someone could make a "bande dessinée" by studying the traditional codes of how it is made in France and Belgium.

I agree that there's no manga style, each artist has their own style. However there are codes to manga that makes it a manga, just like there's codes in traditional French & Belgium comics or US comics. Artists are influenced by each other and can mix those codes of course

Japan has thousands of working comic artists. Even more in their vast history. Each has individual styles often vastly different from each other.

I was offered a last minute booth (there was a cancellation) at a con I really love, but I couldn't find anyone to watch my daughter (Partner works the day it happens) and I had to decline... I will have another occasion, but I feel very sad about it. I really wanted to go.

Me and my coworker were talking about a mistake he did, and I joked how I was relieved that I wasn't the only one making mistakes. Then he said: "The only ones not doing mistakes are the ones who do nothing."

And... Yeah. Actually, yes. He is right. Hearing it really made me feel better.
