A little background on who the Southern Poverty Law Center is and what kind of work they’ve been doing for decades makes it clear that DOJ’s indictment (which is of the center, not of any individuals) is vindictive & malicious, an attack on civil rights work itself. open.substack.com/pub/joycevan...

Sen. Warren: "Did Donald Trump lose the 2020 election?"

His response raises real questions about whether Warsh is independent of the President and if he has the courage to tell hard truths.
(🧵1/14) When OpenAI board members hired the law firm WilmerHale to investigate Sam Altman's firing over two years ago, many executives at the company expected to see extensive findings. Instead, OpenAI released a brief announcement with few details.
BALDWIN: Will you use the CDC's wastewater monitoring program to track the use of mifepristone?
RFK Jr: I have no plans to do that at the moment
BALDWIN: Do you think NIH should fund less cancer research?
RFK Jr: No, they should fund more, & one of the few agencies that got a raise in the budget was NCI
B: That increase is less than $1m for an institute with a $7b budget. That's a .01% increase. It wouldn't even cover one additional grant

That is fabulous!
Drone flight data compiled and visualized by @lemonodor.bsky.social and shared with The Intercept shows how, for example, the LAPD launched 32 separate drone flights to surveil the March 28 No Kings protest in downtown LA.
The LAPD told me they only hit record when a crime happens.
Amen.
I disagree, checking a bag is a comfort issue. I don't want to be dragging a roll-around of any size into a bathroom stall with me at any point, nor do I want to have to manhandle a roll-around through a busy airport going from one gate to another.
I saw this again recently with my 20-year-old kid and it had been so long that it was like new to me. I was shocked doubly sitting next to my child.

Washington can only pay attention to a scandal or two at a time, which means in the Trump age there are all sorts of should-be-big-deal scandals that don’t get the oxygen or media focus that they should.
I'll bet you've missed at least three of these: www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/five-trump...

Joe diGenova, an election denier and former Trump lawyer, will now lead the Russia conspiracy investigation after career prosecutor is removed. They aren’t even trying to make this look legitimate anymore. 🤦🏻♀️

DOJ seeks to vacate insurrectionists’ convictions, while going after a former CIA Director: If Trump can make convictions disappear for allies while prosecuting critics, the damage isn’t just theoretical. Once that line is crossed, it doesn’t easily uncross itself. open.substack.com/pub/joycevan...
Every presidential administration gets accused of corruption—sometimes with good reason, sometimes not. But the corruption of the Trump administration is of a magnitude that is not only without precedent in American history but so large and brazen as to be difficult to wrap one's head around.
Screenshotted excerpt from linked article reading as follows: "In public, Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. has cultivated a reputation for care and caution. The papers reveal a different side of him. At a critical moment for the country and the court, the papers show, he acted as a bulldozer in pushing to stop Mr. Obama’s plan to address the global climate crisis. When colleagues warned the chief justice that he was proposing an unprecedented move, he was dismissive. “I recognize that the posture of this stay request is not typical,” he wrote. But he argued that the Obama plan, which aimed to regulate coal-fired plants, was “the most expensive regulation ever imposed on the power sector,” and too big, costly and consequential for the court not to act immediately."

New York Times got receipts on John Roberts being like, 'I know this isn't how anything works, but a Democratic president is about to implement a policy!!'

As we read this about the Roberts Court let’s remember the shadow docket grievously harmed American scientific research, cancer cures, and public health over the past year.
For ex, KBJ’s “Calvinball” quote was in an NIH case. More, short 🧵 1/
