A pinky/purple square showing the three candidates for the Labour Women United slate for the Labour Party's National Women's Committee: Nikki Belfield, Saranya Thambirajah and Cat MacLean. Their priorities are: Full inclusion of our trans sisters in our party. Working with party leadership to tackle the “boys’ club” culture. Improved approach to safeguarding, particularly for young members. A standalone, democratic, annual Women’s Conference.

Ultimately, courts can only interpret the law that exists before them.
It’s up to our Party and our labour movement to have the appetite to fight for a coherent vision of equality.

The High Court has ruled on our challenge to the EHRC’s interim guidance.
The judgment contains some good news for trans rights – but plenty of bad.

“The legal situation for trans people, employers and service providers is now completely incoherent. What bathroom a trans person can use in a pub may now depend whether they are there as an employee or for a drink. We are pleased the court has confirmed that the Equality Act does not function as a bathroom ban, but outdated workplace regulations have failed to keep up with modern times and last year’s Supreme Court judgment has made them entirely unworkable. “This risks outing trans people at work, who may have been using gendered facilities without issue for years - and it is unclear how trans people without access to gender neutral facilities will be able to do their jobs. This is a worker's rights crisis for the trans community, and one which will cause issues for employers across the country. “The High Court has clarified that trans people should not be forced to use facilities in line with their birth sex, but it is hard to see how treating us as a 'third sex' at work aligns with the privacy protections in the Gender Recognition Act or the Human Rights Act. We must be allowed to transition and move on with our lives with privacy, not be outed every day at work.”
Our take on the judgment: incoherent, unworkable and needs to be fixed or we face a workers rights crisis. We will be campaigning hard to fix this mess, watch this space.

I get that not everyone agrees that’s the right approach.
In terms of this post, I am just glad to see more queer people in every sphere of life, hence my comment. When I grew up with gay parents there was nothing but invisibility.
I come from a queer family which includes trans people - who I take my steer from. Yes I don’t agree with everything the government has done in this area and I lobby on this issue within the party. It means a hell of a lot to me and I hope that I will have more influence inside the party than out.
Yes - part of a queer family. Is that a problem?
Just read this and totally get it. All power to you x
Awful footage, and sadly not an isolated incident.
The co-opting of "quiet rooms" (for people to choose to briefly escape/recover from sensory overload before it gets worse) to justify clearly abusive restraint is sickening.

Nearly everyone is aware of #autism. We even have our own law - the Autism Act.
So why do 91% of #autistic people feel that society does not accept or only sometimes accepts them?
