And given how much space now exists due to Iran war and Taliban vs Pakistan war, both only ceasing in unease truce recently, a lot of openings are now bound to be used by various insurgents.

May be related to Islamabad meeting between US and Iran or not, but as I suspected yesterday, that it would be the Khorasan wing of Islamic State using these chaotic times to exploit situation, and fuel the fire.
A massacre was conducted by gunmen on civilians in Herat city, with dozens of killed and many other wounded. Given how many times it has happened, prime suspect remains ISKP, which is always interested in sparking sectarian tensions, massacring Hazaras.

New analysis of mine for Fronts "The Implications of Iran's Uneasy Ceasefire
Lebanon,a high priority on Iran's list ceasefire point is still getting invaded by Israel, if not massacred.
With that in mind, tommorow's Islamabad talks are still a big question mark. Nothing has been achieved. Nothing resolved. However, the new status quo won't satisfy anyone.
The US got simply humiliated. No valid war goal has been achieved.
However, it’s not that black and white - Iran, already suffering severe economical crises, is facing a simply unprecedented destruction of its economy. Arabs are angry and hunting for IRGC operatives.
As we could see yesterday and can see today in the buildup to Islamabad talks, confusion is the word of the month.
Iran, with its leadership decimated, was able to stage a hostage situation - appointing itself as Hormuz overlord.

New analysis of mine for Fronts "The Implications of Iran's Uneasy Ceasefire
According to Reuters, three people killed and two police officers wounded. Two years ago, Islamic State gunmen attacked a church in Istanbul, where Polish Consul was attending the mass. www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/gunfire-heard-near-israeli-consulate-istanbul-reuters-witness-says-2026-04-07/
which makes it obvious, that one of suspects for now will be exactly ISKP.
Islamic State is frequently calling for attacks, and the organisation's wings are plotting assaults on embassies and consulates in different parts of the world at all times. IS Khorasan this year bombed Islamabad, Kabul and tried to attack the Israeli embassy in Baku...
It may by Iranian proxies, may be a very interesting Nazi outfit, may be Islamic State always lurking in the vicinity, with the last clashes in December 2025, claimed by the IS, when the Turkish counterterrorists battled an IS-affiliated family in a village.
Israeli consulate in Istanbul has been attacked, with a local Turkish policeman injured in the process of defending the consulate. The consulate had been closed for over a year, perpetrators for now uknown, but given it's Turkey, their affiliation is not easy to determine.
This month that is ending today has been quite a return of mine after many years, and I hope it's for good this time. For the ones interested I will be pinning articles and longer blog posts in this thread from now on, starting with the Foreign Policy article on the Sahel.
From two years ago, an article for a UAE-based media.

Islamic State Philippines before it was largely annihilated post-Covid, with a contingent of the Islamic State suicide bombers from abroad appearing in the Philippines from the Middle East and other parts of SEA. thedefensepost.com/2019/10/29/p...
From ancient history, my analysis on the earlier era of the Islamic State Khorasan Province, from the times of Qari Hekmat's demise in the North of Afghanistan. Even today quite relevant, I used it as reference in my MA thesis.

And also a bit over two weeks ago, an analysis on the Islamic State threat appearing in the Caucasus, especially in Azerbeijan, though given the modus operandi of IS in 2026, Turkey, Russia, Georgia, Iran and Pakistan all have their own role.

Two weeks ago, I wrote an article regarding the Iranian state sponsored terror and the possibilities awaiting the terror landscape, the longer the Iran war continues. fronts.co/article/the-...

And as the article itself covers the Sahel part, the Islamic State that has clearly divided itself into two main parts in Africa, and the shift to West Africa from the East, will be performing a dangerous role if the jihadists continue to have largely free hand in operation.
It's the first of many (I hope) from the series on West Africa that will follow from me soon. Given the extent of terror that has not only expanded in the Sahel, but grown to reach its hands to the Gulf of Guinea, it's imperative to watch events there.
My debut at Foreign Policy
The Islamic State Sahel Threat Is Transnational and expanding.

Yes, those are secular separatists with the clear indepence goal.
It all comes amid resumption of war between Afghanistan and Pakistan, with more crisis entering another phase and UN calling for support due to mass shortages in everything. Meanwhile, Iran and US are being set up by Pakistan/Saudi/Turkey/Egypt to meet in Pakistan
It seems that the Balochi insurgents for the second time in a few weeks staged a massive assault across dozens of Pakistani cities, targeting communication towers, railway stations, gas supply lines, taking over highways and establishing checkpoints for a few hours. #Pakistan
According to the New York Times reporting, casualties may be "in the hundreds", NRC is a reputable NGO working for years in Afghanistan.
The source is also...quite a persona when it comes to non bias on these matters.
Unbelievable what Pakistan has just done, they are unleashing a hornet nest for no reason. Single airstrike killed the number Iran war is close to having.
