Three years of absolute horror for children in Sudan, with parties to conflict continuing to inflict the most unspeakable atrocities. Impunity is the new international norm and children as always will suffer more than anyone else.

After a month of escalating violence in the Middle East, over one million children in #Lebanon and #Iran have been displaced from home. "Uprooting children from their homes is uprooting children from the childhood," UNICEF's @ricardopires.bsky.social tells ABC News.
Children across impacted countries in the Middle East are at the epicenter of ongoing war, death and displacement. My segment with ABC News 👇🏽 youtu.be/P8FiZCtg9nY?...
“Despite the carnage, the conflict is “invisible.” I think that’s because there’s no easy narrative — it’s Africa, there’s always been conflict there. We should not accept that.” UNICEF’s Country Representative in Sudan, Sheldon Yett. www.politico.eu/article/suda...
Displaced families face a growing health crisis as violence in the Middle East intensifies.
"Once you start having less access to even the right nutrition, foods and clean water, you're at risk of contracting infectious diseases or waterborne diseases," warns UNICEF's @ricardopires.bsky.social.

“It’s heartbreaking for us to see again and again children paying the heaviest price in a conflict that they have no say in and didn’t ask for.”
UNICEF's @ricardopires.bsky.social talks with @nbcnews.com about escalating conflict in Lebanon and the region, as well as the humanitarian response:
What ceasefire is this? At least 130 children reportedly killed in Gaza since it took effect in October 2025.
“Children in Gaza are not statistics.”

The fragile Gaza ceasefire keeps showing the world that celebrations were perhaps too premature. Over one million children are exhausted and can no longer endure more violence and death. All parties to the conflict must do anything and everything to uphold their agreement.
Children in Sudan have been at the sharpest edge of this endless horror. Displaced, killed, injured, abused, starved. It needs to end.

Beyond the initial excitement & optimism, over one million children in Gaza now need consistent actions & humanity. The bombs & killings lessened, but many other deadly threats remain. They have been through hell for over two years. www.unicef.org/press-releas...

Explosive remnants of war are a massive risk for at least 5 million children in Syria.
Nearly 300,000 deadly devices are scattered across the country.
UNICEF’s Ricardo Pires highlights the challenges.
Horrifying reports of at least 200 children killed and 303 injured since the ceasefire collapsed in Gaza. That’s over 500 children in about 48 hours. Unprecedented brutality after 15 months of unrelenting war. Humanity will struggle to come back from this.
Over a decade of devastating conflict has left communities across Syria littered with deadly remnants of war, including an estimated 324,000 pieces of unexploded ordnance scattered across the country. This danger affects approximately 5 million children living in areas contaminated with UXO and landmines, which have become the leading cause of child casualties in Syria. - Ricardo Pires, UNICEF Communication Manager
“Every day without action is another that threatens the children of Syria. These children – who have lived their entire lives in danger – deserve to live the rest of their lives in safety.” - UNICEF Communication Manager Ricardo Pires.

Girls and boys in #Syria continue to suffer the brutal impact of unexploded ordnance (UXO) at an alarming rate.
In December '24 alone, @unicef.org received reports of 116 children killed/injured by UXO, an average of nearly four per day.

All I want for 2025 is more justice in the world.
It is a grim irony that children, women, and young girls bear the brunt of conflicts driven by the decisions of a tiny handful of powerful men—decisions that cause immense suffering.
