made for an unfinished zine. still probably one of my favorite illustrations ive done (2022)
first three panels of a grayscale mother 3 comic. kumatora, duster, and lucas are all sitting on the grass. kumatora begins "Hey Lucas, tell me something." in the second panel she continues "What are you doing all this for? Do we have anything left that's worth protecting?" the third panel shows the broken body of a flying mouse. "After this is over, will there even be anyone left who deserves the new world?"
duster turns to kumatora and says "Kumatora, that's not fair." kumatora counters "I don't care. I want to hear it from Lucas. He's the smartest one here and you know it." Lucas, with his legs slung over a sleeping boney, is letting a caterpillar crawl onto his finger as he responds "I guess...."
"it's the possibility that the future could be better." Lucas continues, observing the caterpillar closely. kumatora, still discouraged, holds her face in her hands and says "That's a pretty flimsy hope." Lucas looks off into the distance and responds "Yeah, I guess so." around him, two butterflies flutter by.
"at some point, the world wound up destroyed. naturally, it was humans who destroyed it."

Runelord Tressa's Bright Pursuit does 16,000 mental damage on top of its cap causing extreme brainrot to the player. So wtf are all the references for the characters in their second job outfits. I feel like I spent more time looking for Runelord than drawing lol. Luckily, those who came before drew some nice fanarts for me to go off of and there was one runelord outfit I took slight inspo from. But yeah, this is my interpretation of the 16 bit sprite. Freshly squeezed from a guy who is about to ko after work.

Sorry I'm late, I--" Lei interrupts them with her own pink speech bubble. "OI!! Just 'cuz I'm not a fancy lady, that doesn't mean you get to make me--"
Panel 3: Lei's expression changes to confusion as she gets a better look at the person addressing her off-screen. "Ah..." -- Panel 4: Reverse angle shot on Masaru, showing he's the one speaking the yellow speech bubbles... and showing that he's wearing a bright pink hoodie and sweat pants. "What... are you wearing!?" Lei asks, bewildered. "Uh..." Masaru says, pausing to think about it. "...A tracksuit?"
Panel 5: Lei and Masaru are in frame, Lei is pointing questioningly at Masaru's outfit, Masaru looks unphased. "Isn't it kinda... Gaudy for training?" Lei asks "Nah, bright colors are good for jogging in the city! Makes you easier to see so you don't get run over." Masaru replies "Run over? Wait--" Lei continues -- Panel 6: "-You don't mean we're gonna be training in the street!? With those... Horseless Carriages?" Lei says, pointing to the street now, looking concerned now. "Just jogging next to them 'til we get to the Park!" Masaru cheerily adds. "And those are called "Cars"."
No dialogue, Lei and Masaru are jogging in the park now, the blooming sakura a nice backdrop against the blue sky. Masaru looks forward, determined. Lei looks at Masaru, still a little unsure.
