I have some great memories of shopping here... I got my copy of Midtown Madness from EB, my trip into town to get it was laced with pure anticipation.

And so say we all! ๐
What a crazy system, but still it worked!
As I recall, that layout was then further split into three bands down the screen. I never got into coding for the Spectrum, but the sprite routines must have been so much more complicated than anyone realised.
I would love to watch this...
There's a place called Rockford, too. Good job they're not close to each other, imagine the rivalry!
This demo by Razor 1911 is absolutely wonderful. If you were there for the 8-bit or 16-bit #demoscene, you should really take a few minutes to give this a watch.

Bill Harbison has recently started a YouTube channel where he tells tales of olde from Ocean Software. Go give it a gander:

LOADS of great songs on there. If I had to pick just one too listen to now, I'd choose Tomorrow Never Dies by Sheryl Crow, I think that's a brilliant track.
Looking fantastic!
A screenshot of the new work-in-progress version of WordsUp, showing a game in progress with a series of words created on the game board.
The logo for the game WordsUp
WordsUp is coming back! I had to withdraw my popular tile-stacking game ten years ago as it broke on modern versions of Windows, but finally I'm working on getting this up and running again. Coming soon for Windows, Linux and maybe Android. Follow for updates. #indiegame #gamedev #screenshotsaturday
I tried out the new Alexa+. Had a twenty minute argument with it about the existence of one of my smart lights. Went back to classic Alexa. Maybe it'll improve over time...
As a former Magic The Gathering player many many years back, I found this video from Stand Up Maths particularly enjoyable, well worth a watch!

Only six months? I reckon it'll last for seven...
The only way to start (and continue) is to sit down and do it. Force yourself to sit at your computer and start typing, even if you just do it for a few minutes. Starting is the big challenge! It's easier once you get into a routine. Set some time aside today, you'll be so glad you did afterwards.
Ah, Maplin. I still miss Maplin on a regular basis.
A tiny-looking HTC Windows Phone next to a relatively enormous Samsung Galaxy S25
I dug out one of my old Windows Phones today. It's still working fine, but I can't get over how TEENY TINY it is. Here's a picture of it next to my current Samsung Galaxy S25. This size felt normal back then! It also still seems to think it's 2014, which is when I last used it. Aww... #WindowsPhone
Aw crap. What a total, total shame, that's completely ruined my evening. ๐ข
My little charity Auction in aid of bhf.org.uk is now up:

What I originally bought back in December, thinking I could simply clean it up and flip it, turned out to be someone's box of broken stuff. It took me three months to fix everything. ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
Plus, every update you make is another chance to talk about your game and keep it fresh in people's minds!
It's not on Steam, just from my website.
It's all good, always happy for anyone to spread the word! ๐
Those pictures are lovely. How long does it take you to make a picture like these?
Highway Pursuit may be 23 years old this year, but definitely not abandoned. I released a small update in March 2025, and who knows, maybe there are more updates still to come! ๐
Hi, I'd love to see what you think of my remake of the classic 80s arcade game Pac-Mania.
My remake is called Pac-Zania and it recreates all the fun of the original as well as adding new levels and gameplay features. It's free for Windows/Linux from my website at adamdawes.com. Hope you like it!
You can spend as much time as you like releasing updates with your other ideas once the game is out there, but the important thing is to reach a point where you can say, "This is good enough to release now", even if you know there's more still to come.
It's better to release a game with some of your ideas missing, than to never release a game that does everything you could dream of.
Write all your ideas in a list and categorise each as "must have", "could have" and "maybe". Then work on getting the must haves done and leave the rest until later.
The discovery is real, but I'm pretty certain that image is not.
A very enjoyable (and slightly uncomfortable) read, thank you for sharing this!
