Saying stuff like “they’re a bad person” can be useful shorthand. Saying JK Rowling is a piece of shit human is helpful to get across that’s she’s causing harm, will continue to cause harm and will not stop, and in fact continues to do worse. But it’s her actions that matter not some moral core.

We tend to get caught up in determining someone’s moral worth as a person when at the end of the day it should be about looking at the harm they cause, why the caused it, if they’re going to do it again or will stop, and if/how they will work to rectify the harm they did. This is what I care about.

I don’t really give a shit about moralizing if someone is a “good” or “bad” person. What I care about is if you’re contributing to harm, and if you’re doing so knowingly, because it tells me a) you’re ok with that and b) as a trans person I shouldn’t trust you to actually show up for me.

I know I'm not the first person to say this, but if you want books about wizards and dragons and magic, Ursula LeGuin's Earthsea novels are *right there* and they have about a million times more heart and beauty in them than anything JKR could ever write.
