I did read that NY Times article on its link with psychosis and how chatgpt basically validates everything the user is saying rather than appropriately challenge and yeah its kind of alarming if mentally ill people are starting to turn to that model for that support tbh

But equally services being strained could lead to AI being used inappropriately to fill gaps that maybe a human should be doing i.e therapy. Especially literally with ChatGPT as not programmed as specific MH support and the concerns with its link to psychosis.

Implications are interesting because with crisis services overwhelmed I *could* see a future where AI could help do first line of support for crisis intervention, programmed to escalate for more help when needed and offering that listening support etc.

I'm on a FB group for support with mental illness and I did read a slightly alarming conversation with a number of people admitting to using ChatGPT to cope when feeling down and basically as therapy. One person claimed ChatGPT talked them out of a suicide attempt.
