Pregnant women deserve so much better than Trump’s theatre of scaremongering and shame | Kate Womersley There is no credible evidence linking autism with maternal paracetamol use. But the US president’s ‘tough it out’ message could harm mothers and babies, says doctor Kate Womersley

“Many women … will now be burdened with unsubstantiated concerns about how their choices might endanger their pregnancy. Whatever they choose, there is a pathway for them to be blamed.”

I’m thankful the ever insightful @katewomersley.com has weighed in on this.

As always @katewomersley.com provides the best antidote to the far-right anti-science nonsense poisoning the public sphere: "Pregnant women deserve so much better than Trump’s theatre of scaremongering and shame" www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Yes 📣 @katewomersley.com 📣

"This political theatre highlights a longstanding and harmful problem: pregnant women, and their babies, are routinely let down by partial, poor-quality and missing medical evidence."

I was arrested for peacefully protesting against genocide—why our medical leaders need to speak up I have never been arrested before, but I went to London’s Parliament Square on 6 September with that as my sole objective. I am now one of over 1400 people, including at least 25 current and former UK...

Fiona Godlee on why she protested, knowing she would be arrested.

Participation of Women in Cardiovascular Trials, 2017 to 2023 This systematic review describes the representation of women across a broad range of cardiovascular trials registered from 2017 to 2023.

More women in cardiovascular trials still needed (and CVD trials are pretty good compared to other medical specialties...)

Important and overdue. Most parents I know who can afford to have been opting in to Chicken pox vaccination for their kids. This will remove significant socioeconomic inequality.

Fertility rate hits record low in England, Scotland and Wales Last year’s total fertility rate of 1.41 for England and Wales was lowest since comparable data was first collected in 1938, ONS says

Maternity scandals, physical and psychological birth trauma, limited and costly childcare, inflexible workplaces, rising costs in every domain. The UK isn’t making parenthood exactly appealing.

Physicians assistants upset that their work opportunities/over-reaching have been curtailed by the Leng review; but PA union was all too dismissive of these same impacts when they affected doctors due to PAs being rolled out across the NHS.

You are, in the next few months, going to see a few pro-AI people who start trying to morph into "thoughtful cynics" on the issue, and I can't wait, because I've been taking such detailed notes

“I fear that in unleashing A.I. companions, we may be making it easier for our loved ones to avoid talking to humans about the hardest things, including suicide. This is a problem that smarter minds than mine will have to solve. (If yours is one of those minds, please start.)”

In Germany kids are given a schultüte on their first day at school - essentially a Christmas stocking of goodies. My Scotland-born daughter was counting her lucky stars for those Köln roots this morning.

Committing to better inclusion of older adults in health research A joint statement has been signed by over 40 UK health funders and charities, to improve understanding of disease and develop better health interventions.

Excellent to see this commitment to include older adults in research. Cries of ‘wokery’ will be fewer & quieter for the protected characteristic of age, yet the principles of equity and inclusion are the same as with sex, gender, ethnicity & pregnancy status. All matter
