How bleak is it that the *best case scenario* is that he is just engaging in his most ambitious bit of market manipulation yet and will call it off ("we have reached a great deal, a tremendous deal, to save Iran") at 4:30 pm after shorting everything and watching the market tank

i can't believe a representative of the Vatican openly pondering whether someone should be burnt at the stake in 2026 and my answer is, "Yes absolutely, do it slow."

YOU ARE GOOD BEAUTIFUL MIND SPECIAL GUEST: NATHAN SHUHERK
NEW EPISODE! "You can't reason your way out of this! Your mind is where the problem is in the first place!" In which @schizophrenicreads.bsky.social shows Alex A Beautiful Mind for the very first time.
I remember recording this and fumbling over the words disorganized speech when talking about the symptoms so… you’re getting the conversation from the source with this one !!!
Today is the Indianapolis indie book crawl and my tradition is to ask followers to send me money so I can go shopping and giveaway my favorite books to the people in my community. Got a pretty quick response, and here’s some of what Ive left for people…
Trump is now starting a war in which other players have agency. He is being firmly placed back into a reality in which he cannot determine what reality even is.
It’s a shame no one has been able to stand up against power in a measurable way until now, but I do hope this utterly breaks him.
He doesn’t care that people are suffering. The reality of the masses is not the reality of those in power. The idea of democracy is a farce because the people have no power and the division of our material lives and our relation to power determines which reality we are apart of 3/
And in most ways, he’s been allowed to bend reality to his will. It’s been working, not for people, but in the sphere of power where he lives, he gets whatever he dreams up.
Democrats and Republicans and international politics have let him determine the world and nearly whatever he wants. 2/
I think what I’m stuck on with watching Trump bomb Iran and immediately jump on social media to say the war is over and we won is that Trump believes he controls reality. Whatever he thinks is the sheer totality of how existence works for him. 1/?
Next week is the Indianapolis book crawl so I guess I was pregaming?
Put in special orders for the first two, never heard of the third but very interesting, and the forth is a book club pick for next week that I need to start immediately
You dont need a team of analysts to say the countries carpet bombing Iran are responsible for the bombing. This is not a standard used for Russia or Iran, it’s a standard invented on Oct 17 2023 after the Al-Ahli Arab Hospital bombing and the ADL’s crybully campaign, it’s reserved only for Israel/US
Our conversation about this movie spiraled into “WTF - WE ARE WE LIVING IN A TECHNO HELLSCAPE” but the movie is still good, but also good for realizing how stupid and annoying the tech bro future is something that promises everything and yet just delivers the most boring, useless crap
US foreign policy: if we kill enough people, eventually everyone will love us
You’re saying the FIFA Peace Prize recipient did this??? How is that possible!
Never forget who you’re fighting for.
Only one fun run finisher. I can’t image how bad the course was with an early start on Valentine’s Day and all the snow we’ve had.
didn’t ted bundy do this
Wrote this recommendation list that might be helpful if youre still decompressing from the spectacle of the super bowl

Failing to close Guantanamo Bay and prosecute everyone responsible for its continued operation paved the way for this
I’ve recommended this book a lot over the past year, and I think for the people constantly asking the question “how did average people become nazis” this is answering that question through the American century.
Home grown, small town zealotry masked in conservative values about protecting families
Elon being up at 6am asking “pwetty pwease invite me to your pedophile island 🥺” and Epstein dodging because he couldn’t tolerate spending a single minute with Elon is the least surprising leak I’ve seen yet
Never mind the jobs you had, tell me five classes you took in college:
1. Europe from 1929-1939
2. Irish Lit
3. Tech ethics
4. US Colonial History (thesis class)
5. Advanced creative writing - even though that was a decade ago, it really helped me decide doing my MFA now would be worth it
I want to have that same hope, but I’m just not sure I view the republicans as fragile by any measurement- they’ll accept imperfections as long as the movement of power is leaning in their direction. Half of the powerful conservative groups hate Trump and yet here we are.
The Melania documentary utterly bombing is making me a little hopeful that the cult of Trump will die when his heart gives out (soonish?). But in dying out, could it change into something else that’s even more stupid? Possibly, yes, but not dumb enough to ascend Don Jr or Erik probably
Basically this is how yesterdays essay ended up happening lol I was so unbelievably exhausted from scrolling that’s I was like I CANT TAKE THIS ANYMORE so I had write 2k words to try and feel something, anything lmao

Walz read the Fort Bragg Cartel and was like “those night raids that special ops did in order to psychologically damage an entire country sound dope AF”
It's obviously good that citizens with smartphones can create multiple records of these shootings and undercut propaganda and government lies about them. But I find it a little deranging that being an informed news consumer in 2026 requires watching what are essentially snuff videos in slow-mo.
A blue and white graphic from Publisher’s Marketplace that reads NONCOMPLIANT By Leah Ida Harris. Imprint: Haymarket. Advocate Leah Ida Harris’s NONCOMPLIANT: A FAMILY HISTORY OF THE ASYLUM, an account of the violent history-and grim resurgence-of the asylum in American life through a multi-generational story of involuntary psychiatric treatment, to Charlotte Heltai at Haymarket (world). Rights: Roisin@haymarketbooks.org
NONCOMPLIANT is on her way! I am so grateful to @haymarketbooks.org for the opportunity to write this book. This is our generational family story of resistance to involuntary psychiatric treatment, set against a half century of efforts to 'bring back the asylum' in the United States.
