my main thesis is that the most important stat in SMT games is level, due to how it is utilized in both the damage and experience formula. everything else is about strategy and party maintenance/management imo.

this is best exemplified in strange journey not even letting you manually level and still expecting you to manage strategy without issue. dds gives you so many stat points on level that they very quickly stop mattering.

this comes from a place of having donr a nocturne run where i only leveled luck and saw basically no major differences in damage/survivability. and in IV and IV Apocalypse, i've intentionally pancaked my builds and both games were still fairly simple and easy.

my smt hot take is that stat points for main characters almost never matter in a way that would affect nonspeedrun gameplay, with the only exception being the devil survivor games. and in that case, it is mostly due to stat points being required for specific skills, necessitating build management.
