Just a reminder that the "don't buy stuff" action for tomorrow Fri 2/28 refers to corporations. Feel free to celebrate the day by shopping at your local indie bookstore and/or other small local shops. They will appreciate your business! #Booksky #ShopLocal #IndieBookstores

Given that Bezos just did a full takeover of @washingtonpost.com and now it can only report that America and money are great--today is a great day to cancel if you have it, you check to make sure you aren't paying for a forgotten subscription.

Every House Republican just voted to defund Medicaid. Reminder: there are no moderate Republicans in Congress, and stop pretending there are.

@stealthygeek.bsky.social: “Democrats should be running daily press briefings from a shadow White House pool of the legitimate news agencies which have been locked out by the Trump coup. Their audiences will get real news, Dems will regain some messaging control.

Why is this not already happening?”

This might be a radical concept but I don’t think anyone should feel like they need to justify why they like or don’t like a piece of media, literature, etc.

Enjoy what you enjoy, ignore what you don’t. Be free.

Screen shot of an email to HR-
I'm so glad Comrade Musk asked for us all to submit our highlights of what we did last week. I'm sure you know I sell books... cause it's not like it's top secret or anything. And conveniently, every Monday we report our sales to the New York Times and USA Today. So I'm happy to share our top five books of the week with you.

1. Handmaid's Tale
2. Attack of the Black Rectangles
3. Between the World and Me: Notes on the First 150 Years in America
4. United States Constitution and Bill of Rights
5. Maus a Survivors Tale : My Father Bleeds History

I think you will agree that it's important books like these find their readers.

I did a little extra book sales reporting this week...just trying to help "catch fraud" in our government. 🤣

DO NOT BOYCOTT YOUR LOCAL SMALL BUSINESS ON THIS DAY! THEY CAN'T AFFORD A FULL DAY OF NO SALES! January & February are hard enough as it is. No sales for one day often means not meeting rent or payroll.

Sam's big ass pile of books she brought home this week. Mostly rom com advance reader copies

I swear, I was going to try and resist. I told myself only bring home the things I ABSOLUTELY WANT TO READ... So once again the TBR has reached triple digits.

To quote the baddest nerd villains- Resistance is Futile.

Not to mention the world is on fire, so...

Lots of red today on ye olde glucose monitor... In a direction I'm not used to. Good thing healthcare in this country isn't under fire! 🤣😡🤦😱🖕

Take care of yourselves, loves. Body & Mind. Don't be like me and try to power through "bad days". Listen to your body.

Yes! I hated the movie long before I was a bookseller. She sold her soul and killed her community for "love".

Another great day to:
Buy books
Call your reps
Support small businesses
And fight the patriarchy!
Even small acts of resistance are resistance! ❤️

Don't delay, DNF a shitty book today! And pick up something you know you'll like instead.

Life's too short, and all that.

One thing we've learned since 1/20 with painful clarity is that our institutions are far more fragile than we could have ever imagined.

Is there anything better than that new book feeling?!

One of the best parts of being a bookseller is getting advance reader copies. This is how we figure out what books to bring into the shop for our wonderful customers 🥰

So yes, booksellers get just as excited about new books as you! 💙📚
