softlocks can have worse consequences though, like when you screw up story progression in sadx and get stuck somewhere on the hub world, in which case your save is ruined. but i still consider it a softlock because on a software level the game is running and interactable
to me a hardlock was always a crash while a softlock was the game continuing to run, but youre stuck and cant move on. Hard locks would be fixable with a manual game/system restart while soft locks may be as easy to get out as restarting a level
