I was speaking specifically to recidivism in sex offenders, taking into account the number of victims they will harm over decades of preying on children. I understand not supporting the death penalty financially and ethnically. I have ethical concerns about it myself.

I'm not a proponent of the death penalty for children, nor do I believe they should be tried as adults in the legal system. Theyre still developing neurologically into their mid-20's. Sexual abuse of children, to me, is stealing the life of a child yet leaving them alive. Its especially damaging.

Currently, laws are being written to lower the age of consent and marriage of young children. Children in custody are being abused and impregnated while government does nothing. It emboldens continued abuse and "othering" of those with less power. We're allowing a permission structure to take root.

Instead of keeping pedophiles incarcerated, they are released into the community with minimal supervision. The recidivism rate is upwards of 50%, according to several studies in notable publications. We aren't serving our most vulnerable. Instead we legalize the abuse of children with archaic laws.

I recognize the death penalty is often applied to people of color, low socioeconomic circumstances. They receive poor representation in many cases. There's bias, upgrading of charges to allow harsher sentences. If we arrest and jail sex offenders and not normalize them, I wouldn't feel we've failed

Defense lawyers involved? Why? A narrowly defined opinion regarding sex offenders isn't a plan to carry out a death sentence personally. People in forensic units are often released even though they were deemed unsalvageable. There's a systemic and societal failure to protect the rights of victims.

I have come to the conclusion that allowing singular people to destroy the lives of innocent children can't continue. I've been an opponent of the death penalty for decades, but I know the proclivities of a child molester do not change. I've seen it. Offenders will do it again, given the chance.

If we reach the consensus that pedophiles are irredeemable, cannot be salvaged and punishment demands the death penalty, we can protect our children. If we view people who protect pedophiles as irredeemable and deserving of removal from society, we protect our children. We need to get to this point.
