My 2014 retrospective review of the _Purple Rain_ soundtrack is part of this collection.
Tomorrow marks 10 years since Prince passed. For the first time, I gathered nearly two decadesq of my writing, podcasts, talks & more into one curated resource, including playlists, rarities, a review of every video he ever made, and collaborations I did with his estate. anildash.com/2026/04/20/p...
hawking a line of branded Mountain Goats smart glasses. no matter where you look things look a little bleaker and also the wearer cannot remove the glasses once worn. I’m disrupting this sector

I had a chance to meet Ben while I was in Chicago and while we only spoke for a few minutes, I walked away with the distinct impression that this is someone who is genuinely fearless when it comes to protecting 1A and Americans SANITY. And I respect the hell out of it.
ANCIENT GREEK PRO WRESTLING PROMOTER: ok so you're going to be what's known as a "heel"
ACHILLES: fuck you
Given the sad musical loss we’re marking today ten years on I’m happy to also have the chance to celebrate one of the best to ever do it, then and now.
Just went to see Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band play New Jersey and Garden State boomers are sooooo pissed. Last week I went to Lady Gaga’s final show of her Mayhem tour in NYC and my ears are ringing harder tonight from people with white hair up way past their bedtime booing ICE and DHS.
love bluesky because the replies to this post immediately descend into people fighting about whether the minions would have worked for stalin
Stark rain shadows in the Bay Area today. Berkeley (1.24”) and Concord (0.03”) are only separated by 20 miles, yet massive differences in precip. Santa Cruz Mountains 2” while San Jose just 10% of that.
Hills squeeze out moisture on the windward side and cause a drying effect on the leeward side.
It is DEEPLY important to get non-millionaires, non-tech-industry-hacks, and non-Wall-Street people onto Boards of Trustees of Colleges and Universities. I've seen @syed.nyc in action in the Working Families Party and hope you'll vote for him if you're a Wesleyan grad.
So. I have a story involving this video. Yes it's a "THERE WERE SIGNS" story.
Double Nickels on the Dime (1985, Minutemen)
We've hit the "Okay, people are hooked so now it's time to raise prices and cut user hours" part of the business, only they haven't made the business indispensable, so let's see how this works out.
Plenty of the elements are there but you can also tell how it juuuust needs a little more work. (And when that work happened, goddamn.)
The thing about Stock-Aitken-Waterman was that they got shit on nonstop throughout their hit-making days for their assembly line process, but they really did represent the future of pop. You'll never guess what this song eventually became.

Post it somewhere and say it's a link to a terrible piece of AI slop, and therefore noone will read it. (This might not be true.)
Dude is busy!
It’s how I learned about him!
The RZA on the left and an Alamo Drafthouse program director on the right, seated in director’s chairs in front of a screen projection for his forthcoming film _One Spoon of Chocolate_, with a classic grindhouse style character portrait assemblage on the right, with Shameil Moore at the top with mouth open in rage.
And so you just walk down the street because the RZA is showing his new movie. How’s your Monday?
California voting guide with: Max Fomin I NO PARTY PREFERENCE Will veto mileage tax, suffocate homelessness, assassinate unemployment, nuke crime, house the unhoused, prosecute corruption, generate$, like my coffee iced out.
Sure, you can vote for California gubernatorial candidates like Tom Steyer or Steve Hilton, but do they have a plan to nuke crime and assassinate unemployment?
My essay for the 4K release of TROUBLE IN PARADISE—Ernst Lubitsch's masterpiece—is up at the @criterion.bsky.social website.

It has now been seven weeks since noted noise/drone musician Siavash Amini posted from where he lives in Tehran. Again, even beyond the general Internet shutdown, we simply don't know what's happened with him. Please listen to his music.
Definitely a strange name for an organization
why do things like this never happen to me
I probably picked up as much 40s slang as I did 70s slang when I was a kid.
A candidate statement for California lieutenant governor from Tim Myers and it would take up too much space to replicate in full here but he lists himself as "a co-founder and former member of the multi-platinum band OneRepublic, and a creator behind 16 gold and platinum albums." Hey, I remember when Mike Curb was lieutenant governor. But he was something of a different guy.
When you idly flip through your delivered copy of the California primary election guide and land on a candidate statement for lieutenant governor and think "Huh, dude looks like he could be in a band" and then read the first couple of lines and do a double-take.
There’s a great new podcast out it’s just Alex Jones crying with periodic ads for DraftKings
kalshi see this one coming?
