The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle was excellent. Have you read Hermann Hesse's novels: Demian and Steppenwolf? It's been years since I read them but Wind-Up gave me a similar vibe.

Just finished The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle and it didn't disappoint. It reminded me a bit of reading Hermann Hesse's novels Steppenwolf and Demian. I got 1Q84 for Christmas but am going to space out my Murakami reading. Thanks again for the recommendation!

Same here. Lego is a gateway drug to most design fields.

That would warrant a follow up question.

When I interview undergraduate candidates for the design program I teach in, I ask if they play(ed) with Legos. Whether they did or not doesn't matter, but if they say yes and launch into an enthusiastic monologue describing their process and what they love about Legos, it does.

* If only Kettering had this sentiment front of mind when he developed leaded gasoline.
