A beautiful early medieval cobalt blue glass beaker. dating late 7th century AD. Found in a burial in Lauchheim.

This type of vessel has no foot and will not stand upright, it had to be emptied before it could be put down.

Lovely in the woods yesterday and enjoyed meeting up with a favourite tree. Today I planted two lime trees, a rowan a cherry in the woodland garden and a Norwegian Maple elsewhere. Also filled some gaps in the beech hedge.These saplings have all been in pots way too long but they should take.

At the WG jelly ear fungus (I think )growing on one of the rather massive downed tree segments that we were given by the local rangers. We have placed them in the wild parts of the garden to rot down and benefit other organism. Children often climb and jump from them
