I wrote up an overview of the 2026 Legislative Session in Virginia for The NewDEAL!
“This year…We pushed back against MAGA but, more importantly, we passed policies that will put money back in people’s pockets, create a world class educational system, and protect people’s rights.”

Stopped at METAFIXRX this morning in Henrico to talk to the Ambroses’ about preventive health care, fitness and what we can do to make our food and health care system work better for people, to make them healthier and happier!
It was a blast to join Delegate Rodney Willett at Vera Whole Health this morning as we cut the ribbon on their new primary care space in Short Pump.
A robust primary care system means healthier people and more affordable health care!
Virginia:
Vote YES today for checks and balances.
Vote YES today to stand up to a bully.
Vote YES today to stop the constant attacks on our constitutional values and order.
Vote no if you want Trump to have a blank check.
Rob Wittman's Virginia: screwing vets to pay for his tax cut
💯 HIS fault
Vote YES!

Huge victories this session on affordability! This is what happens when you elect @vademocrats.bsky.social in the legislature and as Governor!
Building more homes, prioritizing energy sources that lower bills, PBM reform, and ensuring people are paid a fair wage!
I enjoyed talking to the Lakewood Retirement Community last night about the upcoming election and redistricting constitutional amendment with some info about the 2026 legislative session also sprinkled in!
What a great turnout!
So glad we are banning non-compete clauses for health care workers this year! Long over due.
Thankful to have Del. Charnelle Herring as my partner in crime on this legislation!
So glad I got to stop by @bookpeoplerva.bsky.social yesterday (a great local bookstore in Western Henrico!) to see David Poole, the founder of VPAP, talk about his book.
You can see me there as a guest book seller on Independent Book Store Day! They’re stocking books I chose for the occasion :)
🎥 Affordability is the focus of the 2026 session. Watch how Senate Democrats are putting working families first across Virginia.
As the 2026 session begins, Senate Democrats are focused on lowering costs for working families. From housing and healthcare to childcare and beyond.
"Sanity prevails,” said state Sen. Schuyler VanValkenburg, D-Henrico, who sponsored the legislation."
On Yom HaShoah, we remember the six million Jewish lives taken during the Holocaust.
This weekend at Congregation Or Atid, Rabbi Kranz noted “We don’t just remember with our brains, we remember with our hands..Remembering is not what we know. It’s what we do.”
Words to live by.
With Governor Spanberger having signed my SB 267 last night, we have a pathway towards big energy users paying for grid modernization.
This can increase our energy supply plus have big energy users pick up the tab and ensure we have cheaper energy.
A win win.

A lot of Virginia legislative news today. Tonight I’ll point to one bill that will lower energy costs.
My bill with @katrinacallsen.com Callsen to increase small scale solar projects will ⬇️ utility bills and ⬆️ job creation.
The affordability agenda at work.
Virginia is making progress towards increasing supply.
Our revolving fund and manufactured homes legislation will both increase supply.
Combine that with permitting reforms over the last couple years and VA is making real strides at housing affordability.
Great night yesterday supporting the Autism Society of Central Virginia at their Annual Missions Awards.
They are in the process of opening a regional facility in Innsbrook that will be a game changer for the autism community! I’m hopeful we can get the state to help them in their efforts!
Come to find out Governor Spanberger can’t sign bills we didn’t pass.
But she *did* sign a lot of bills we passed in housing, energy, health care, and the economy that lower the cost of living and chip away at the affordability crisis.

"Big #VoteYes rally with Henrico County Democrats and Hakeem Jeffries this afternoon! Donald Trump doesn’t want to face accountability for his unpopular actions that are making your life more expensive and harder." - VA Sen. State @scvanvalkenburg.bsky.social bluevirginia.us/2026/04/sund...
Big #VoteYes rally today with @henricodems.bsky.social and @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social!
Donald Trump doesn’t want to face accountability for his unpopular actions that are making your life more expensive and harder.
Great news for liberal democracy today.

Spent Super Saturday talking to Henrico and Chesterfield voters who are fired up to vote YES for the redistricting referendum.
Haven’t voted? You have until April 21st! Visit iwillvote.com to find your early voting location.
I had a great time Friday night at Maggie Walker Governor's School being part of a legislative panel for their Shamin Hotels Speaker series.
We discussed service, how young people could engage in politics and government, and issues that impact young people.
A wonderful evening & conversation!
The President and MAGA have to lie because they know Virginia proves that you can tackle affordability and get things done for people if you prioritize it.
And you can do it while protecting democracy and working together.
The President only helps himself.
Virginia Democrats help people.
When it comes to public safety, good governance means giving law enforcement the tools they need, ensuring the community has resources to help people, and passing common sense gun violence prevention laws.
So cool to see one of Henrico’s own, Sam Martinette, end Artemis’ mission last night.
That mission is a great reminder how Americans can marshall our talents, resources, and values to achieve a goal.
What a wonderful reminder of all that’s right with America and of the beauty of our universe.
It’s the first Saturday you can #VoteYes!
We had a great @henricodems.bsky.social rally at the Western Government Center to start the day with @jennmcclellanva.bsky.social @maynivar.com and the Three Chopt local electeds!
Stop the MAGA power grab. Vote yes!
I really enjoyed the unity and message of freedom and liberty at the Passover Seder co-hosted earlier this week by the Jewish Federation of Richmond and Virginia Union University!
It was a beautiful statement about the Richmond region’s togetherness and collaboration.
A great crowd for @markwarnerva.bsky.social’s RVA campaign launch yesterday!
I can’t wait to get Senator Warner re-elected.
I appreciate that he’s willing to roll up his sleeves to get legislation across the line and that he’s focused on issues, like housing, that need champions.
