🚨New article with @andres-bernstein.bsky.social at @bjpir.bsky.social using @ess-survey.bsky.social.
We show a positive association between different conspiracy beliefs and populist radical right attitudes, and how such associations can sometimes differ between Western and Central & Eastern Europe.

Really delighted to see this article with @lucasgeese.bsky.social finally out.
Using speech analysis + elite interviews, we show that UK MPs give less attention to decarbonisation when they represent more carbon-intensive constituencies — especially among Conservative MPs and in marginal seats.
Looking forward to editing this issue on forecasting the 2026 midterms with @debraleiter.bsky.social
Submissions using established or novel methodologies are welcome. Peer review will be accelerated to enable publication of accepted articles before the election.

I can't think of anything specifically on this I'm afraid.

New paper: CAST's Dr John Kenny & Prof Steve Fisher's journal article on "Europeans’ climate consciousness: increased yet more politicised" was published last month, using the European Social Survey from 2016-17 and 2020-22 📣

We use @ess-survey.bsky.social from 2016-17 and 2020-22 to show how climate worry rose across Europe, and in Western Europe especially so for left individuals and voters of left parties.

Thanks very much!
New paper, with @johnkenny.bsky.social, shows politicisation of climate change attitudes in Europe from 2016 to 2022 increased mostly because of greater climate consciousness among those on the left rather than less among those on the right:

Very pleased to see our new article out in JEPOP. It details some of the fascinating insights we gleaned from digitalising and cleaning almost 800 individual-level polls carried out by Gallup in Britain between 1955-1991.

New blog post & case study: CAST affiliate, Dr John Kenny (@johnkenny.bsky.social) explores his climate change public opinion research and how his framework is shaping the design of public opinion surveys, on the UK Data Service's (@ukdsimpact.bsky.social) website. 📣

A recent report reveals both UK MPs and the public greatly misjudge the timeframe for #ClimateAction. Few are aware the IPCC indicates emissions must peak by 2025 to keep warming at 1.5°C. Learn more about the study ⬇️ tyndall.ac.uk/news/mps-and...
Super excited to finally see this project out in the wild! What a journey it's been! Looking forward to see how people will use this awesome data. See thread below for more details from @jacobnyrup.bsky.social.
A new CAST study has found that UK MPs and the public in the UK, Canada, Chile & Germany underestimated the urgency of peaking global GHG emissions. 📣

Few realise how short the window really is. Science says global emissions must peak by 2025. Yet publics in 🇬🇧 & 🇩🇪 still believe there’s more time left.
There's some interesting MP polling by Pearson and Wager that is worth looking at: doi.org/10.1093/pa/g.... Climate Barometer also have a rich resource of MP polling over the last few years on climate issues (including some trackers) which may be if interest: climatebarometer.org/climate-baro...

UK members of parliament overestimate the time available to mitigate climate change, with notable partisan differences, and a similar lack of knowledge is evident among the public in Britain, Canada, Chile, and Germany.

Bit of an awkward coincidence that our paper comes out on the day Kemi Badenoch pledges to scrap the UK Climate Change Act, but perhaps provides also a bit of an explanation:
Many UK politicians, and Tories especially, still don't fully grasp the urgency of cutting greenhouse gas emissions!
