The far right had planned to take over Buchanan Gallery steps but found they had already been occupied by us. They were instead penned in, surrounded by people who say NO! to racism and hate. No Pasaran 💪 - Tayside Against the Far-Right Fascist snowflakes are now having a meltdown about it online An additional reportback from Glasgow Autonomous Antifa It was another successful outing for the autonomous anti-fascists. This time mobilising against the Edinburgh based fascist organiser Ralph Millar and his attempt to host a rally on Buchanan Steps. Upon arriving at the steps the black bloc immediately confronted Millar forcing him off the steps before his rally was even due to start. For the rest of the day no fascists set foot on our steps. As the fascists’ advertised assembly time drew closer it became clear that they had given up on taking the steps, instead attempting to rally further down Buchanan Street. When anti-fascists moved to confront this gathering and were subject to police violence as well as stewards forcing themselves between fascists and anti-fascists. Both of these had the clear effect of allowing the fascist rally to take place. While we expect nothing less from Police Scotland, we condemn the intervention of stewards to protect fascists. As the day wore on the fascists moved to Buchanan Galleries steps, facilitated by the police. Anti-fascists attempted to block this move and were again attacked by police, including a comrade being kneed in the chest. Later in the afternoon the fascists again attempted to move their rally to Buchanan Steps but this time they were prevented by the swift and brave action of anti-fascists who were able to hold the fascists back. After a few hours of being shouted down and heckled the fascists finally broke and left the area, of course escorted by the police. This is a clear victory for autonomous anti-fascists in Glasgow. We salute our comrades who faced down Millar and the police to defend our community. Thank anyone who joined in on the day. We urge all reading this to create your own affinity groups and to take the streets against the fascists.
