Pennsylvania's motor-voter system effectively screens non-citizens from voter registration • Pennsylvania Capital-Star The audit also revealed problems with PennDOT’s data security protocols and recommended tighter internal controls.

Pennsylvania's auditor general, a Republican, audited 210,000+ new voter registrations under Gov. Shapiro's new motor voter system to see if noncitizens were registering to vote.

They found one. One.

And that was because a PennDOT staffer erred. It was fixed before the driver left the office.

Power without accountability: The Palantir manifesto The problems with our tech philosopher kings

New, from me: Take the Palantir manifesto seriously, if not literally.
It reveals that our tech philosopher kings want public money, but without public accountability. This creates a dilemma for governments unaligned with its techno-fascist vision. 🧵

The League response to executive order on mail-in balloting.

The League response to executive order on mail-in balloting.

The League has joined the Brennan Center, other voting rights groups & state Leagues challenging executive orders aimed at rewriting federal election rules. Why? "The Constitution is clear: election administration is the responsibility of the states, not the executive branch.” @lwvus.bsky.social

Most NWSL players currently oppose potential calendar switch The National Women's Soccer League Players Association says that a majority of players are currently opposed to a potential switch of the league's calendar to a fall-spring season.

NEW: The NWSLPA tells @espn.com in a statement that most players polled so far oppose flipping the calendar to fall-to-spring. "The right question is not whether the league should flip the calendar, but whether the right conditions exist to do so responsibly." More 👇

How the Iran war made China stronger The conventional wisdom was that a destabilizing war in the oil-producing heart of the Middle East would badly hurt China. Evidence suggests otherwise.

The country that gains the most from Trump's war of choice on Iran never fired a shot.

Chinese renewables are more in demand, rare earths even more so.

The war was the stress test Beijing's energy strategy was designed for.

China sees how the US military works under stress + its vulnerabilities.

For last two WWC’s, initial ticket sales took place Oct the year before the tourney. For WWC 2027, that would be Oct 2026.

So, the Concacaf W Championship 2026 will be used as the WWC 2027 Concacaf qualifiers and it takes place Nov - Dec 2026?

FIFA is really managing things well, per usual.

And in your case, wouldn’t schvitzing be an indicator of potential guilt? We cannot have that at a murder mystery!

1 day ago 0 0 0 0

The risk of schvitzing is very real. I have a reading to do at a bat mitzvah next weekend in Chicago. Thankfully the schvitzing risk there is moderated due to forecasted cool temps and large size of the synagogue (and this reading is in English rather than Hebrew, unlike last time, so less stress).

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is preparing banks to collect citizenship data Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent says the Trump administration expects banks to comply in collecting citizenship information from customers.

Undocumented immigrants contribute $97 billion yearly in federal, state, and local taxes. They paid $25.7 billion in Social Security taxes, $6.4 billion in Medicare taxes, and $1.8 billion in unemployment insurance taxes in 2022.

Bessent is galactically stupid.

For those keeping track at home. The Iranians have now blockaded the Strait of Hormuz in response to the US blockading it because the Iranians had blockaded it, in response to the US attacking Iran to ensure that the Strait which was fully open at the time wasn't blockaded.

The Women’s Amputee Soccer World Cup returns in 2027 In 2024, 117 players from 10 nations changed the game in Barranquilla, Colombia. For the AASA, it was a landmark year: The U.S. Women’s National Team secured a 2nd Place finish, and our goalkeeper ear...

A lady in our 40+ decrepit middle-aged soccer group is a leg amputee. She hopes to play in the US Amputee Women’s World Cup next year (she just started playing last year).

But she says they need more players.

Aaron Astor: My general tendency is to reject conspiracy theories. And yet, this keeps happening - massive trades just minutes before Trump announces something. And that something (Iran handing over uranium and opening Hormuz) often turns out not to be true at all.

FULL TIME: #USWNT 3, Japan 0

Strong ending to 3-game series v Japan, which the U.S. ends with a 2-1 edge in wins. Both those wins come with more of a first-choice XI. A lot to like about that window overall. The idea of the US consistently dictating play/60%+ possession v Japan? Identity overhaul.
