Six page digital comic. This first page has 5 panels. Asami is in her father’s old office organizing blueprints on the desk. She finds one particular engine blueprint signed by her father.
This second page is a memory. The color is in a sepia tone. In the first panel, the same blueprint is on a work table. In the establishing panel, a young Asami stands next to a Satomobile with Hiroshi. She asks him, “What’s wrong with it?”
Hiroshi responds who a hand on his chin, “the engine’s… being a pain. It starts, sometimes, but then it sputters out.”
In the next panel, Asami asks, “Like it’s running out of breath?”
Hiroshi smiles, and says,” exactly, I’ve checked the spark plugs, and even cleaned out the carburetor. Nothing obvious is broken.”
In the next panel, Hiroshi and Asami are leaning close into the car. Asami asks, “could it be, like, it’s not getting enough food-I mean, fuel?”
Hiroshi responds with, “That was my thought too, but the fuel pump’s working just fine. The tank’s full, it’s getting fuel, but it doesn’t seem to be using it right.”
Asami turns to him, “What happens right before it stops?”
Hiroshi responds with a smile, “It revs up and chokes.”
In the next panel, Asami thinks out loud with a hand on her chin,”Hmm… like when I try to blow into a balloon but there’s a whole in it?”
In the next panel, Hiroshi raises his eyebrows, pouting at the engine, “Maybe- oh! A leak. It could be an air leak.”
Asami smiles in the first panel, asking, “Like it’s taking in the wrong air?”
Hiroshi responds, hand pointing, “Exactly if there is a vacuum leak, the engine would get too much air and not enough fuel in the mix. That could throw off the entire system.”
In the next panel, Asami, stands next to the Satomobile, “So, it’s like trying to drink through a straw with holes?”
Hiroshi walks back to the workbench, “Pretty much. That could explain the sputtering. He picks up a can of cleaner, “This cleaner might help us find the leak.”
In the next sequence, Hiroshi sprays some valves in the engine while he and Asami start the car.
We still haven’t gotten new Asami’s-centered content so her story feels a little unresolved for me… but I love filling in spaces! Enjoy my little six-pager-heart-breaker! 🥹💖
