I've liked a lot of metaphorical horror movies released since but none have ever remained so tense and so assured. Helps that it's not *just* a metaphor but something that will literally kill you. (A)

So why the 21-year gap since Amanda and Dawson parted? Would that the explanation were simple. Dawson’s father is a drug dealer who beats him; Tuck, a widower with a Sparks-ian combination of masculinity (he’s gruff and owns a rifle) and femininity (he has a tulip garden), takes him in and gives him shelter and protection. But Dawson’s father and his redneck posse insists on coming after him, and when Dawson isn’t around, they beat Tuck to within an inch of his life. In a rage, Dawson grabs Tuck’s rifle and peels away in his truck, joined by his superfluous best friend—who just got married, has a kid on the way, and still insists on coming along. Dawson confronts his father, but cannot pull the trigger. The two get in a fight, and in the ensuing struggle over the rifle, Dawson accidentally shoots his friend in the head, killing him instantly. The court takes the situation into account, but still saddles him with an eight-year prison sentence. When Amanda comes to visit him in jail, however, Dawson decides to make her get on with her life, and not waste good years waiting for him to get out. She shows up every day for a week and every week for a year, but he refuses to see her. Twenty-one years later, they finally come to terms with the fact that both of them—Dawson for setting her free, Amanda for her steadfastness—were acting out of a deep, abiding love for each other. Later, they bone.

Deep breath.

Anyone know of some good horror focused outlets that'd be interested in freelance interviews?

I really don't understand why Searchlight waited so long to buy it in the first place and why it didn't have anything coming out of Venice

I'm leaning cautiously pro but just barely swinging back. I will say it does raise questions and it doesn't need to have answers necessarily but I don't know that it makes any emphatic statement. And Owens herself gets lost for a while, though I suppose it could've been anyone at that point.

Mulling over feelings on THE PERFECT NEIGHBOR. Heart is in the right place, it makes its case well enough but I just don't know what to do with it all in the end. Seeing family members in the worst moments of their lives is never easy but I question if we should be seeing it in the first place. (B-)

I was prepared for PILLION to be sexy, maybe even a little sweet. Caught off guard in the best way by how alternately tender and beautiful it could be, a fantastic adaptation. Harry Melling so hot, Alexander Skarsgard perfect. Watch this space. (A)

Embargo is up for THE PITT S2. It's fantastic, dropping back in like we never left and expanding it to a true ensemble (don't let the marketing fool you). Even better editing and direction than before, easing into the life of the hospital. Can't wait for the rest of it.
