Trixie the dog, a kelpie mix, has her head resting on the arm of my chair. She’s staring at me with her big brown eyes
Trixie hopes you had a good time writing today.
I’ve nearly hit 2,000 words today, which is huge for me. A lot of it is character work, dynamics and setting up for things later. Time to take a nap. #writingcommunity #amwriting

Looking through one of the four windows of the Orion spacecraft, a tiny crescent Earth is illuminated against the blackness of space and grows smaller as the crew journeys closer to the Moon. Part of the window edge is visible; the rest is darkness. [Alt-text slightly revised from ESA/NASA version]
We are so, so small. #Artemis

I had such big goals for writing last week and I only reached a quarter of the way. But I have today free, I’ve had brunch and coffee, and I’m now at my desk. Time to write a whole bunch of words. #writingcommunity

I've been in a reading slump as of late, which isn't to speak on the quality of the books but more just *gestures wildly*. So I made a decision to pick up my magazine fiction reading once again. The joy I had just experienced. Past me subscribed for a year. I have several editions to catch up on.

So you know that book I was pantsing? The one where I got 12,000 in with no idea where I was going and fumbling through? I found the characters. I found the world. I found the story. And I scrapped the 12,000 words. Time to start fresh with a plan. #amwriting #writingcommunity

Saw Kisschasy, Yellowcard and Good Charlotte last night in Bendigo. 15 year old me is thriving and it was banger after banger after banger. One of the best concerts I’ve been to.

There’s something magical about the exhaustion that comes after a night of seeing live music. I just ate a giant bowl of pasta and I’m now going to merge into the couch with a book.

So um, what the fuck was all that about then, UniMelb?

I haven't had the space to write in the last few days, until tonight. I'm very tired. But amongst it all, some words have been written tonight. We also have a project name change - Project Bone to Project Rune. Better aligned as the world has evolved. #writingcommunity

It's going to be so interesting to do. I didn't know this was where the story was going, but then oh no someone was murdered!!! It's been a fun experiment to dabble in. As an outliner for all other projects, I think there is going to be a point where I go ok I have no idea what is next ahh!

In the beginning, this novel was being pants with only two plot points in mind. But now I have reached a point where I have an idea of where I'm going and I've now created the goal posts to mark the beats. It's a fantasy murder mystery! How fun! #amwriting #writingcommunity

Wondering why you should write now with the world the way it is? Have you taken time recently to read a book? Was it a welcome relief? A moment of calm? Of normalcy? Sure it was. That's why you need to write, so your book can be that for someone else. And, of course, you do it for yourself too.

Today was the first day back to work for the year. It was hard. I was tired. I wanted to go to bed early. But I sat down to the laptop and got it done. Even hit word count, somehow. Time for sleep.

It might be helpful right now to remember that collective achievements for the common good are possible. We don’t know the names of everyone who contributed to this and some are probably lost to history. But all of their individual contributions mattered.

Yesterday I woke up feeling like hardly anyone’s reading my work and no one cares. Then I opened an email from someone telling me they loved one of my stories and how important they feel it is. All this to say, let people know when you like their art. Your words can find them when they most need it.

A list of 21 debut authors who almost appeared at a writers’ festival.
Imagine you were about to appear at a writers' festival to talk about your first book... then the whole thing fell apart.
I wanted to find debut authors who almost talked at Adelaide Writers' Week. These are 21 folks I've identified so far but *please* let me know who I've missed or mixed up.
