I'm still fleshing out the idea- it might be something closer to me posting a commission sheet of prices, and the commissioners just send me the idea, and I give them a quote if I like it enough.
Rather, it's a bounty system for one specific artist.
The commissioners submit ideas to the artist they want to commission, with their idea and price.
I see your point- but for a luxury good, what it's worth is what someone is willing to pay for it.
Still, I definitely could put a cheat-sheet out for what ballpark range I'm looking for in these kinds of pieces.
It also makes calculating the work per hour a lot easier- I can know ahead of time that this commissioner wants something on the cheap, so I can keep the scope narrow.
Or that they're being really generous, so I have more time to really flesh out the details.
My issue with commissions is that you're kinda entering an agreement blind- they might want me to make something wildly outside of my usual scope, or have unrealistic expectations of prices.
I'd rather just a bounty-
"Make me X character doing Y, for Z amount."
Then I could consider the gig.
Okay, so I don't really do commissions, but I was floating this idea to a couple buddies-
A bounty system.
Like, a DM from a commissioner that says "Here's what I want, how big it should be, the color scheme, and here's how much I will pay."
Then the artist just picks what they want to make.
